Apple's new iPad mini, with an OLED screen and the A20 Pro chip, starts at RM2,999 in Malaysia. That is RM300 more than the outgoing A17 Pro model cost on Apple's Malaysian store on 14 October, 12 days before Apple announced the new one, and the gap is exactly the same at every matching storage size with standard glass.

RM300 more at every storage size
We compared Apple Malaysia's online store as it stood on 14 October, captured by the Internet Archive, with the same store page today. The previous iPad mini was RM2,699, RM3,099 and RM3,999 for 128GB, 256GB and 512GB on Wi-Fi. The new one is RM2,999, RM3,399 and RM4,299. The cellular models moved the same way, from RM3,399, RM3,799 and RM4,699 to RM3,699, RM4,099 and RM4,999.

There is one new cost on top. A nano-texture glass option, which Apple says cuts glare outdoors, is offered only on the 256GB and 512GB models and adds RM400, so a 256GB Wi-Fi unit with it is RM3,799.
What the extra RM300 buys
Apple's announcement calls this the iPad mini's biggest update ever. The headline change is the screen: an 8.5-inch OLED panel, rated by Apple at 600 nits full screen and 1,200 nits peak for HDR content only, according to its Malaysian spec page.

The body is 5.4mm thin and weighs 255g for the Wi-Fi model. It is rated IP67, tested to a depth of one metre for up to 30 minutes in lab conditions; Apple notes that resistance can wear down over time and that liquid damage is not covered by warranty.
Inside is the A20 Pro chip with a 7-core GPU. Apple says graphics are up to 2.7x faster than the previous iPad mini, and that Neural Accelerators in the GPU make large language model token generation up to 4.5x faster. These are Apple's own test figures, not ours.
The camera finally sits where you hold it
The 12MP Center Stage front camera now sits on the long edge, so you are looking into it when the tablet is held sideways for a video call. It records 1080p at up to 60fps. The 12MP rear camera records 4K at up to 60fps, with 1080p slow motion at 120fps or 240fps.

It comes in Midnight and Starlight, supports Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C), and adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 through Apple's N1 chip.

We tracked Apple's other new Macs in Malaysia the same way: the M6 iMac against the M4 model, and the PROLED MacBook Pro against the standard model. For the top of Apple's tablet range, see our look at what a 2TB iPad Pro costs here.
The first units of the new iPad mini are available in Malaysia from 6 November.
