Apple's new iMac with M6 starts at RM6,499 on its Malaysian online store. That is RM700 more than the cheapest iMac cost on the same store in May, when the M4 model started at RM5,799. The jump did not arrive with the M6: Apple's Malaysian store already listed the M4 iMac at RM6,499 by late June, and the M6 keeps that price while adding two CPU and two GPU cores.

When the iMac price moved in Malaysia
We read Apple's own Malaysian iMac store page as the Internet Archive saved it. On 24 May 2026 the M4 iMac started at RM5,799 for the 8-core model and RM6,699 for the 10-core model. By 25 June 2026 those read RM6,499 and RM7,499, increases of RM700 and RM800. Later copies from 21 August and 18 October show the same RM6,499 and RM7,499. The store page gives no reason for the change. Our archive only shows the price before and after, not the exact day it moved.
Apple's Malaysian Mac laptop prices also rose over a similar period. The standard 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro, 24GB memory and 1TB storage (part number MGDR4ZP/A) was listed on Apple's Malaysian store at RM8,999 on 1 June and RM10,299 on 4 July, as we found when we priced the new PROLED MacBook Pro this morning.

What RM6,499 buys now
Against the M4 iMac at the same RM6,499, the M6 base model moves from an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU to 10 of each. Memory and storage stay at 16GB and 256GB, and the screen is still the 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, according to Apple's Malaysian spec page. The RM7,499 tier now carries the 12-core M6, where it carried the 10-core M4 after June.
In its 27 October announcement, Apple says a 12-core M6 iMac ran its Affinity photo-editing graphics test up to 2x faster than a 10-core M4 iMac, and that SSD reads and writes are up to 2x faster, both in Apple's own tests on the configurations listed in its footnotes. It also adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Only the 12-core models get four Thunderbolt 4 ports and the nano-texture glass option; the RM6,499 model has two ports.

Before you pay for more storage
Configuring more storage or memory adds to that starting price. We worked out what extra storage and memory cost on a MacBook Pro in Malaysia, and why 16GB of laptop RAM now runs to RM1,000 at a Malaysian shop.
All prices here are Apple Malaysia's listed starting prices, not reseller, education or promotional prices. The iMac with M6 reaches buyers on 6 November.
