Apple's new MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display starts at RM11,999 in Malaysia. We put it next to the standard MacBook Pro on Apple's Malaysian store with the same chip, memory and storage. The PROLED XDR version costs RM1,700 more on the 14-inch and RM2,000 more on the 16-inch. That gap buys the OLED screen, Touch and a thinner, lighter body together, so it is not the price of the panel alone.

What the PROLED XDR model costs over the standard one
Apple announced the new MacBook Pro on 28 October and sells it as a separate line on the Malaysian store. We matched each starting PROLED XDR model against the standard-screen MacBook Pro with the identical chip, memory and storage. The gap is flat: RM1,700 on both 14-inch models and RM2,000 on both 16-inch models. We compared Apple's listed starting configurations only, not custom upgrades, education pricing, reseller prices or promotions.

The standard model already went up this year
The RM10,299 comparison point is itself new. Apple's Malaysian store listed the same 14-inch M5 Pro, part number MGDR4ZP/A, at RM8,999 on 1 June 2026, according to an Internet Archive copy, and at RM10,299 on 4 July 2026 (archived copy). It still reads RM10,299 today. Apple's US store moved in the same window, from US$2,199 on 1 June (archived copy) to US$2,499 on 6 July (archived copy), so the rise was not limited to Malaysia. Neither Apple's announcement nor its store pages explain the increase.

That RM1,300 rise on the standard model came first, and the RM1,700 PROLED XDR gap now sits on top of it. If you are weighing memory and storage upgrades on top, our MacBook Pro upgrade price breakdown shows what each step adds.
Who the PROLED XDR model is for
Apple positions it for colour-critical work. Apple's specifications list factory calibration, industry-standard reference modes and coverage of both P3 and Adobe RGB, and the newsroom post puts Rec. 2020 coverage above 80 percent and pitches the screen at HDR video editing and colour grading. Genlock syncs the screen's refresh with a camera on set to minimise ghosting, tearing and other visual artefacts, which Apple aims at virtual production and on-set work.

Touch arrives on the Mac
This is also the first Mac with Touch. Apple quotes up to 24 hours of battery life on the 16-inch M5 Pro and 20 to 22 hours on the other models, in a thinner, lighter body. For anyone deciding between this and an iPad Pro, our iPad Pro versus MacBook Pro price comparison lays out where the two now overlap.

Pre-orders are open on Apple's Malaysian store and Apple says availability begins on 6 November. The standard-screen MacBook Pro stays on sale at RM10,299, so the PROLED XDR model is a choice, not a forced upgrade.
