vivo has a new version of its phone software on the way, and in Malaysia its flagship owners will feel it first. The company unveiled OriginOS 7 in Shanghai on 24 September, and locally the X500 Series will be the first to ship with it, before the update reaches the rest of the X Series and, later, the V and Y ranges.
OriginOS 7 is vivo's Android-based interface, and this release is built around one idea the company keeps returning to: a phone that stays fast, not only on day one but years later. Here is what actually changes for the person holding the device.

A rebuilt engine, and up to five apps at once
Most of the work sits in what vivo calls the Origin Smooth Engine, a rebuild of how the system handles graphics, memory and scheduling. vivo puts the gains at a 10% cut in the time apps take to cold start, an 11% improvement when switching between app pages, and a 14.4% lift in rendering efficiency. On memory, it claims 60% more efficient reclamation and up to 25GB of storage freed on a 256GB phone, the kind of figure that matters once a gallery and a year of chat history have filled the thing up.
That foundation feeds Origin Workbench, a multitasking layout that runs up to five active apps in one shared space. vivo's example is exporting a video while checking notes and a chat at the same time, the sort of juggling that usually has you bouncing in and out of full-screen apps. vivo also says it put the software through a 72-month anti-aging test in its labs, its way of arguing the phone should still feel responsive after about six years of daily use. That is a claim worth judging over time rather than taking on faith, but slowdown after a year or two is a genuine complaint on every platform, so it is a sensible thing to design against.
Jovi, and the devices you already own
The other headline addition is Jovi, vivo's assistant, now pitched as an agent that can carry out multi-step tasks across your phone and PC through vivo Office Kit. vivo's own example is asking it to pull a spreadsheet from your home computer, summarise the figures and send the takeaways to your phone while you are out, and you can set it recurring jobs such as compiling a weekly report. A related feature, Snap Note, turns a photo of a whiteboard or handwritten notes into editable, formatted text.
OriginOS 7 also leans into working alongside Apple hardware, which is worth noting in a market where plenty of people pair an Android phone with AirPods or an Apple Watch. An Apple Watch can show vivo notifications and feed workout and health data into vivo's Origin Health app, AirPods surface their battery level and support spatial audio, and files stored in iCloud can be browsed inside vivo's own file manager. iPad, Mac and Windows users can hand off tasks and drag files across screens through Office Kit.
When Malaysian phones get it
vivo says OriginOS 7 arrives on the X500 Series first, followed by other X Series models and later the V and Y Series, with feature availability varying by model and region. The company has not attached local dates or device prices to the rollout yet. Whether the six-year promise holds is something only time will settle, but if you are on a recent vivo X phone, it is the update to watch for.
