Your phone already holds your flight bookings, your hotel confirmations and the photos from your last trip. OPPO's next idea is to let the phone do something with all of it on your behalf, instead of leaving you to open six apps and stitch the pieces together yourself.

What OPPO and Manus are actually doing

OPPO has partnered with Manus, an AI agent platform, to put agentic AI into AI Mind Pilot, the assistant built into its ColorOS software. The capability debuts in a new Agent Mode on the upcoming OPPO Find X10 Series, which reaches Malaysia on 22 October, running ColorOS 17.

The difference from a normal voice assistant is what happens after you ask. Instead of returning an answer, Agent Mode is meant to take a goal, break it into steps, find the information it needs across your apps, pick the right tools and hand back a finished result. OPPO's own example is a trip: ask it to organise your travel plans and it pulls the flight tickets, hotel bookings, restaurant reservations and attraction tickets already scattered across your phone, then builds a day-by-day itinerary without you uploading anything.

The same pattern is pitched at everyday work. You can ask it to gather photos from a trip, find a specific image, or pull existing files and online information together into a presentation or proposal, from a single prompt. "Agentic AI marks an important shift from answering questions to helping users get things done," said Kai Tang, OPPO's president of software engineering.

Why this matters for Malaysian users

Phone makers have spent two years adding AI features that mostly rewrite text or clean up photos. An agent that completes a multi-step task is a bigger promise, and a harder one to deliver, because it has to read across apps that were never designed to talk to each other. Whether it holds up outside a staged demo is the open question, and it is the same question hanging over every agentic assistant shipping this year, including ChatGPT's phone-first push.

What happens to your data

Handing an assistant the run of your phone raises an obvious worry, and OPPO has put its answer up front. ColorOS 17 uses on-device models for local jobs like finding, organising or renaming files and photos, and OPPO says that content stays on the device and is not shared with Manus. When a task needs external processing, AI Mind Pilot is designed to ask for your explicit confirmation before anything is uploaded. You decide what it can see, what it can do, and whether it may reach outside the phone at all.

That control matters more as assistants move from reading to acting. It is the same tension platform owners are now wrestling with: Apple, for one, is tightening how much of a Mac an AI agent can touch.

When you can try it

The Manus-powered Agent Mode arrives first on the Find X10 Series with ColorOS 17. The phones go on sale in Malaysia from 22 October. OPPO says more detail on availability, supported markets and specific features will come at launch, so exactly which capabilities land here on day one is not yet confirmed.

If it works as described, the pitch is plain: tell your phone the outcome you want, and let it handle the steps. That is a genuine change in how a phone assistant earns its place, and the Find X10 launch on 22 October is the first chance Malaysians will get to test it.
