The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) will introduce the Qi2, a new wireless charging standard that will combine Apple's MagSafe magnetic charging feature and deliver greater convenience and faster efficiency for mobile devices and wearables at CES 2023.

According to WPC, Qi2 will "ensure products and charging devices align perfectly," as well as further extend the wireless charging industry by expanding the market to additional accessories that would not be charged using current flat surface-to-flat surface devices such as VR headsets.

As a member of WPC, Apple is pleased to have contributed to the development of the new Qi2 standard by expanding upon their MagSafe technology and creating the new Magnetic Power Profile, both of which are essential components of the standard. This means we will be able to charge our Android devices that adopt the Qi2 with MagSafe chargers safely. Some devices will be able to charge faster, and the revised standard will "pave the way for significant future increases in wireless charging speeds," as claimed by WPC.

Qi2 will replace the current Qi standard when it is released later this year. This year, Qi2 smartphones and charging devices are predicted to hit the market in time for the holidays.
