A smaller phone with a big battery

The X8s is 8.06mm thick and weighs 187g, with an aluminium frame and a glass back. POCO says its 6,330mAh battery uses 16% silicon content, which is how it fits that capacity into a compact body. Charging is rated at 100W, though POCO's own spec page tells buyers to check with the seller whether an adapter is in the box, and the phone can reverse-charge other devices at up to 22.5W.

The 6.35-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen reaches up to 3,500 nits of peak brightness, runs from 1Hz to 120Hz to save power, and sits inside 1.18mm bezels. Unlocking is by an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor that POCO says works with wet fingers.

What it can film

The main camera is a 50MP Light Fusion 800 sensor with optical stabilisation, joined for the first time on an X Pro model by a 50MP 2.5x telephoto, plus an 8MP ultra-wide. POCO's spec page lists 4K video at 30fps and 1080p at up to 60fps, so smooth half-speed slow motion in 4K is not on the menu; for slow motion it offers 1080p at 120fps and 720p at up to 240fps. A ShootSteady mode helps walk-and-talk clips, and there is a built-in video teleprompter for anyone reading a script to camera.

Two things to know if you film yourself: POCO lists no log or flat profile for grading, and the 20MP front camera's video is listed only as 720p slow motion at 120fps, so check selfie video in store first. Phones in this class can still tell a story well, and our own team shot a full music video recreation on a phone for no budget; how we did it is what we teach in Pocket Cinematic.

Where it sits

The X8s runs on Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, with dual speakers and an IP68 rating against dust and water. It slots below POCO's flagship line, which reached Malaysia last year with the POCO F8 Pro, and well above its budget models such as the C81 Pro. Full specifications are on POCO's official spec page.
