Canon is taking its new full-frame EOS R8 Mark II on a ten-stop Malaysian tour, and RM35 buys you an evening shooting with it before you commit to buying one. The "Created To Explore" Experience Tour opened in Kuala Lumpur and reaches Penang's Majestic Theatre tonight, 31 October 2026.
Contents
- Cost: RM35 per person, first come, first served

- Workshops: seven more towns through 21 November

The idea is simple. Rather than read a spec sheet, you book a slot, turn up, and shoot with the camera in setups that are harder than a shop display. For anyone weighing a step up to full-frame, that is a rare chance to test the body on real subjects first. We covered the camera itself when it arrived in Malaysia in September.
Inside the Kuala Lumpur launch
The opening event paired product sessions with working creators. Canon EOS Specialist Marcus Choo, content creator ZY Cheng and Canon EOS Master Johnson Wee each took the stage to talk through the camera and their own approach to photography and video. Attendees then ran the EOS R8 Mark II through five shooting scenes built to stress different techniques: a live graffiti artist, a model portrait shoot, a dance battle, a Muay Thai performance and skateboarding action.

That mix is deliberate. Portraits, fast movement and action each demand something different from a camera, so the scenes let you judge how the body copes rather than taking Canon's word for it. If you are also sorting out sound for a new body, our guide to the best audio setup for mirrorless cameras in Malaysia covers what to pair with a camera like this.
Edward Chang, Head of Division, Image Communication Business at Canon Marketing Malaysia, framed the tour this way: "Beyond its features, we want you to see how the EOS R8 Mark II performs in different shooting situations and discover how it can fit into the way you create."

What it can film
According to Canon Malaysia's product page, the EOS R8 Mark II records 4K at 60fps, oversampled from 6K, which gives cleaner detail and smooth half-speed slow motion. Its 5-axis in-body stabiliser works with Movie Digital IS, and an Enhanced+ mode in 4K steadies handheld walk-and-talk footage further. Canon Log 3 gives you flat footage you can grade like film, and a Full HD slow motion mode records sound along with the picture, so clips are usable straight out of the camera. The sensor is a 24.2MP full-frame chip.
Where the tour goes next
After Penang, the last main event is Kuching's Everly Lhesson on 7 November. Canon's smaller community workshops run in Alor Setar (30 October), Ipoh (1 November), Kota Bharu and Johor Bahru (14 November), Melaka (15 November), and Kota Kinabalu and Kuantan (21 November), which takes the camera to towns that rarely get hands-on time with a new launch.

A "Created To Explore" photo contest runs at the three main stops. Attendees submit photos they shoot with the EOS R8 Mark II during the event along with their impressions, so you leave with actual frames in hand. Canon has leaned on local creators before, including when it added two Malaysian directors to its EOS Filmmaker line-up earlier this year.
What the EOS R8 Mark II tour costs
Registration is RM35 per person, paid online and non-refundable, though a slot can be transferred to someone else by telling Canon first. Selected stops let you buy the EOS R8 Mark II on site. The full schedule, venues and sign-up sit on Canon Malaysia's event page.
For a full-frame camera, a RM35 hands-on is a low-friction way to find out whether the EOS R8 Mark II suits how you actually shoot before any money changes hands.
