Canon Marketing Malaysia has unveiled the EOS R8 Mark II, a 24.2-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera that becomes the brand's smallest and lightest full-frame body with in-body stabilisation, at roughly 546g and about 131 by 90 by 80mm. Announced in Shah Alam on 17 September 2026, it is the successor to the EOS R8 and pulls a stack of features from Canon's higher-end EOS R and Cinema EOS lines into a compact, travel-friendly shell.

A small body with cinema-camera insides
For a studio that thinks about tech cinematically, this is the part that matters. The EOS R8 Mark II shoots 6K-oversampled 4K at up to 60p, and can push to Full HD 180p with audio. It records grading-friendly Canon Log 3 and adds a Custom Picture function borrowed from the Cinema EOS lineup, which supports Custom LUTs and advanced picture-control adjustments straight in-camera. Canon has also extended its Background Blur Creative Assist into movie mode, so a shooter can set a shortcut that racks to a preset cinematic defocus at a chosen speed, alongside Slow and Fast Motion and Cinema View modes.
Stabilisation and speed
The 5-axis in-body image stabiliser works with in-lens IS through Coordinated Control IS for an effect rated up to 7.5 stops at the centre of the frame and 7.0 at the edges. For stills, the deep-learning Dual Pixel CMOS AF II pairs with Pre-Continuous Shooting and a top burst of 40 frames per second on the electronic shutter, and a new Register People Priority mode keeps autofocus locked to a specific pre-registered person in a crowd.
New looks, new colour science
Canon has reworked its iconic pentaprism form into a sleeker contemporary design, and the EOS R8 Mark II is the first full-frame camera in its class to carry the multi-controller joystick from higher-end bodies. Two new colour filters, NegativeFilmtone and PositiveFilmtone, join the existing 14, with new colour modes and a Handheld Night Scene mode for stills. Creative AUTO, a guided mode that is a first for an EOS full-frame camera, is aimed squarely at people stepping up who want help before they dive into full manual control.
VR, 3D and livestreaming
The camera supports full-frame and APS-C VR lenses with a new VR Clear Mode that sharpens contrast and clarity for viewing on VR goggles, and a new Dual Pixel 3D Converter software turns stills into 3D models using the depth data from Canon's sensor. Four wired and wireless livestreaming options are on board, including multi-angle livestreaming through the Live Switcher Mobile app.
New accessories
Three accessories arrive alongside it: the Extension Grip EG-E2 for larger hands, the Tripod Grip HG-1000TBR bundled with the Bluetooth Remote Controller BR-E2, and the Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2), which stretches wireless range to about 50m from 30m on the original.
