Canon Adds Two Malaysian Directors to EOS Filmmaker 2026

The programme grows from three members to five as Canon leans further into video.

If you shoot video in Malaysia, from wedding films to branded content to short features, the people and gear behind local production keep getting easier to reach. Canon has just widened the network of creators it backs directly.

Canon Marketing Malaysia has added two acclaimed Malaysian filmmakers, Quek Shio Chuan and Razaisyam Rashid, to its EOS Filmmaker Programme 2026. The appointment grows the line-up from three members to five, and signals how firmly Canon is leaning into video rather than stills alone.

Inside Canon's EOS Filmmaker Programme

The EOS Filmmaker Programme is Canon's way of working more closely with directors, content creators and production professionals. It ties them to Canon's video-focused kit, from EOS R System mirrorless cameras and RF lenses to the Cinema EOS line, and to a wider support network for storytelling projects.

"At Canon, we believe technology should empower creativity and bring people together through meaningful stories," said Edward Chang, Head of Image Communication Business Division, Canon Marketing Malaysia. He framed the two new members as part of Canon's push to nurture local creative talent and grow its role in the professional video segment.

Why it matters

Demand for video keeps climbing across cinema, streaming, commercial work and social platforms, and camera makers are competing to be the default choice for serious creators. By attaching recognised local directors to its gear, Canon is giving Malaysian creators homegrown reference points for what its cameras can do, instead of relying only on overseas names.

Who is joining

Quek Shio Chuan is a Penang-born director best known for his debut feature Guang (2018), which portrayed autism and picked up multiple accolades at the Malaysian Film Festival. He later co-directed Netflix's The Ghost Bride and, most recently, Nisha (2025), which topped the China box office.

Razaisyam Rashid, born in Kelantan, is recognised for his range across film and television. His credits include CEO (2014), Pusaka (2019) and the series Mandatori (2017), and he has won Best Director at Anugerah Skrin (2016) and Anugerah Telenovela (2018). Recent projects include Kahar: Kapla High Council (2024) and Tarung: Unforgiven (2026).

The takeaway

For Malaysian filmmakers weighing their next camera system, the expanded line-up is a small but telling sign of where Canon is putting its attention. More detail on Canon's imaging range is at Canon Malaysia.
