Malaysia's electric SUV shortlist has a faster option. BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, has launched the 2026 BYD ATTO 3 Performance, a limited run of 69 units priced at RM149,800. The count is a nod to Malaysia's 69th Merdeka, and the variant is the quickest and most powerful ATTO 3 sold here to date.

The Performance sits at the top of a three-variant range. It joins the Ultra at RM125,800 and the Premium at RM138,800, both of which arrived earlier this year when the 2026 BYD ATTO 3 first went on sale in Malaysia. The range now spans an accessible entry point, a longer-range middle option and this new performance flagship.

What the Performance variant adds

The headline change is power. The Performance uses an all-wheel-drive setup with a combined output of 330 kW and 560 Nm of torque, up from the rear-wheel-drive Premium's 230 kW and 380 Nm. That takes the 0 to 100 km/h sprint to 4.0 seconds, against 5.5 seconds for the Premium and 7.3 seconds for the Ultra.

Two features appear on the ATTO 3 for the first time here: a windscreen head-up display and a vehicle refrigerator that both cools and heats. The Performance also carries the Premium's driver-assistance package, including Intelligent Speed Limit Control, Traffic Sign Recognition, Front Cross Traffic Alert and Front Cross Traffic Brake, alongside seven airbags.

Battery, range and charging

The Performance runs a 74.88 kWh Blade Battery, the same pack as the Premium, and quotes a 530 km NEDC range. That is shorter than the Premium's 600 km figure, the usual trade-off for the extra motor and all-wheel drive. DC fast charging is supported at up to 220 kW. Every ATTO 3 also ships with a vehicle-to-load adapter and a Type 2 charging cable with a three-pin plug. The Performance is offered in Ski White, Atlantis Grey, Harbour Grey and Cosmos Black.

Where it sits, and the launch package

BYD says more than 13,000 ATTO 3 units are now on Malaysian roads, and the model drew 1,000 bookings in its first 10 days on sale. Buyers of the Performance can pick one of two launch offers worth up to RM10,000: a wall charger with standard installation plus an overtrade deal worth up to RM6,000, or a six-year service package plus an overtrade worth up to RM5,000. Terms and conditions apply.

Warranty cover matches the rest of the range: six years or 150,000 km on the vehicle, and eight years or 160,000 km on both the Blade Battery and the drive unit. The variant is available to view and book at authorised BYD showrooms now, with a showroom weekend running from 11 to 13 September. Full specifications and booking are on the official BYD Sime Motors ATTO 3 page.

"The BYD ATTO 3 has played an important role in making electric mobility more accessible to Malaysian drivers, and the Performance variant takes that proposition further," said Jacob Ma, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia.

For buyers who liked the ATTO 3 but wanted more pace, the Performance answers that at an RM11,000 premium over the Premium. With only 69 units, it reads as much as a Merdeka statement as a range-topper, so anyone set on one will want to move quickly.
