Awhile back, OPPO launched the Reno 10x Zoom which promises a new age in smartphone photography for users.
With a similar build design of the standard Reno edition, the Reno 10x Zoom model is packed with cutting-edge technology and an exceptional photography setup in its unique and aesthetically-designed body.
It houses a 6.6-inch AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon’s 855 processor chip, Game Boost 2.0, a 4,065mAh battery pack and immersive audio tuned by Dolby Atmos.
But perhaps, what’s very unique is the phone's 48MP triple rear camera setup with an all-new 16MP front-facing motorized pivot rising design camera is also built into the phone.

Design & Screen
The OPPO Reno 10x zoom offer users a completely uninterrupted screen experience as it comes with a 6.6-inch, 93.1% screen-to-body ratio AMOLED display. A Corning Gorilla Glass 6 coats the display for protection.
If that is not enough, OPPO also applies an additional screen protector in its factory onto the Reno phone.

Behind its AMOLED display is a 1080P resolution with a 19.5:9 display ratio at 387 PPI density. As a result, viewing angles, visuals and apps look vivid when you view it at maximum brightness.
But with a big panoramic screen design, comes a relatively big and heavy phone, as the Reno 10x Zoom weighs approximately 215g with a thickness of 9.3mm.
Additionally, at the back, there’s a completely smooth O-Dot surface where a small round button is built underneath the camera lenses to prevent them from touching the surface.

The almost-flat surface also gives the phone a sleek and elegant feeling. However, despite all those design features, the Reno 10x Zoom doesn’t come with a 3.5mm headphone jack. Instead, there’s a pair of USB-C connector earphones to use with the phone.

One of the features that make this phone stand out from the rest is its front-facing motorised pivot rising camera design. The compact rising structure is cleverly housed with a Front-facing Soft Light receiver and a rear flash. It also promises to withstand over 200,000 uses as well.
Performance
As mentioned earlier, the Reno 10x Zoom is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with 8GB of RAM. Alongside with its Adreno 640 GPU, it can handle pretty much everything we throw at it without warming up too much. Integrated with a 4th generation AI engine, this demonstrates a giant leap in CPU smartphone performance as users will get to enjoy increased performance power by 45%.
Gaming on the phone while charging has never been more tension-free. It employs three different cooling technologies consisting of cooling gel, triple graphite layering and copper pipes to manage the device’s temperature effectively.
Game Boost 2.0 optimization is also included in the phone to enhance users’ gaming performance. Additionally, the whole Reno series is also the world’s first mobile to be awarded with a High-Performance Certification from TÜV Rheinland which covers four aspects on performance: communication, screen, endurance and system.

The phone operates on ColorOS 6 which is based on Android 9.0. But still, its UI doesn’t seem to be much different from other smartphones. However, notifications received on a daily basis seems to flood the notification bar instead of grouping into respective apps which can be overwhelming and messy to see.
Camera

With the camera being one of the most exciting factors in every smartphone, Reno 10x Zoom offers a 48MP triple rear camera setup, which consists of an f/1.7 aperture that helps to capture crisp images.

From left to right: 2x zoom, 6x zoom and 10x zoom
We tried the 10x zoom feature by capturing images of a far-away condominium building. The results are impressive; while the resolution is expected to suffer, we find details and sharpness to still be adequate.

Wide-angle shot of the scenery and buildings
Despite the 8MP wide-angle lens featuring a decently wide aperture of f/2.2, the sensor tends to capture less light than expected, making wide-angle shots look dimmer or vibrant.

Portrait mode
There’s also an f/3.0, 13MP telephoto lens. While its aperture is not as wide as many other phones, our subject in portrait-mode looks distinctively sharp and bright with a convincing blurred background. If you aren’t satisfied, you can also change the blur strength in post-production.

Front camera image
In addition to that, the 16MP front-facing motorised pivot rising camera holds an aperture of f/2.0. While we find that images look brighter and clearer when there’s enough light, but the same can’t be said if you’re in dimmer settings; there’s a noticeable drop in sharpness.

Battery life
The Reno 10x Zoom comes with a battery life of 4,065mAh and has the newest VFC flash charge algorithm that drastically increases the speed of trickle-charging by 100%. It also supports OPPO’s 20W VOOC 3.0 fast charging which is shipped together with the phone.
The device’s temperature is said to have decreased by 13%. Moreover, with an AI Ice Box built-in, it automatically stops applications which have been inactive for a while. As a result, this saves power for longer battery life. With that, you can expect a whole day of average use out of the Reno 10x Zoom on a daily basis.
Security
The Reno 10x Zoom is equipped with a built-in in-screen fingerprint sensor. Utilising an upgraded recognition structure combined with an advanced algorithm, it enables faster unlocking speed by 28.5%.
During our tests, a light touch on the display unlocks the phone in an instant. Compared to the recently launched Xiaomi Mi 9T, the Reno series unlocks the phone faster than the Mi 9T by 0.5 seconds.

Conclusion
The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom is a good choice for anyone needing a powerful smartphone that can handle almost everything. With the price starting at RM 3,399, users are getting a full-screen display with an advanced camera system that brings your subject closer to you and captures excellent images for the most part. It is worth the money if you’re looking for a sturdy, well-designed high-end phone with a good camera and performance.
