There is no single best charging cable for every device, but if you only buy one, make it a USB-C to USB-C cable: most phones, tablets and laptops sold in Malaysia from 2023 onward charge from the same port on both ends, and the UGREEN 1.5m USB-C to USB-C Cable at RM44 (checked 30 October 2026, Shopee Malaysia) covers nearly all of them. If you specifically need a MacBook or iPad charger, the Apple 240W USB-C Charge Cable (2m) at RM129 (senQ, checked 30 October 2026) is the safer official pick now that Apple has pulled its own 2m cable listing from its Malaysian store.
We checked every price and buy link in this guide against its live Shopee Malaysia or Lazada Malaysia listing on 30 October 2026, and fixed two dead buy links in the process: the Apple MacBook cable and the Samsung combo cable. Best for Samsung phones: Samsung EP-DG930 Type-C & Micro-USB Combo Cable
Older Samsung phones used Micro-USB, and newer ones use Type-C, so Samsung sells this combo cable with both tips attached, the same cable you would get at a Samsung Experience Store counter. It is the simplest fix for a household with one older Galaxy phone and one newer one, since nobody has to guess which charger head fits which device. It will not fast-charge an Apple device or a non-Samsung Android at the speed Samsung's own charging profile gives a Galaxy phone.
Samsung's own two-in-one Type-C and Micro-USB cable, useful for a household with both an older and a newer Galaxy phone.
Best for Apple Watch: Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable (2m)
An Apple Watch does not charge over Lightning or USB-C: it needs this specific magnetic puck, which is also the one part Apple never bundles with a replacement band or a new strap. Keep a spare at your desk or bedside so you are not stealing the one that lives in your travel bag. It is built for the Watch alone, so it will not double as a backup cable for your phone.
The only cable that charges an Apple Watch; keep a spare since Apple does not bundle one with every accessory.
Best for MacBook and iPad charging: Apple 240W USB-C Charge Cable (2m)
This is the cable Apple itself used to sell for exactly this job, and until this rebuild it was the one linked from this guide. Apple has since pulled that listing from its Malaysian store, so we moved the pick to the same cable at senQ, an Apple Authorised Reseller, instead. It also doubles as a data-sync cable for any MacBook with a USB-C port. The power adapter is sold separately, and at RM129 it costs more than a generic USB-C cable of the same length.

Apple's 240W USB-C cable, now sold through an Authorised Reseller after Apple pulled its own listing; full-speed charging for any MacBook or iPad.
Best for Xbox and PS4 controllers: UGREEN 1Meter Micro-USB Denim Fast Charger
Xbox One and PS4 controllers both charge over Micro-USB, the same port most Android phones used before 2018, so this cable does double duty if an older phone is still in the house. The denim-style jacket is the part worth paying for here: the bare cable that ships inside a new controller box is usually the first thing to fray at the connector. It is the wrong cable for an Xbox Series or a PS5 controller, both of which moved to USB-C.
A denim-braided Micro-USB cable for Xbox One and PS4 controllers, and older Android phones on the same port.
Best for PS3 controllers: High Quality USB Charging Cable for Sony PS3 Controller
The PS3's DualShock 3 controller uses a Mini-USB port that nothing else in a modern household still carries, which is exactly why the official cable is so easy to lose. This replacement is built for that one port and that one job, nothing more. If your PS3 is still your main console, a dedicated spare means you are never caught with a half-charged controller mid-game.
Built specifically for the PS3 DualShock 3's Mini-USB charging port.
Best for older GoPro charging: Proocam Pro-J080 Mini USB Cable
The GoPro Hero 3, 4 and 5 all charge and transfer footage over Mini-USB, a port GoPro dropped from the Hero 6 onward, so an owner of one of those three cameras is the only person who really needs this cable. It works equally well as a data cable for pulling footage onto a PC, which saves buying a card reader in a hurry. It will not fit a Hero 6 or any newer GoPro, which all moved to USB-C.
Mini-USB charging and data cable for the GoPro Hero 3, 4 and 5.
Best overall: UGREEN 1.5m USB-C to USB-C Cable
USB-C on both ends covers the widest range of anything in this guide: current Android phones, iPads, MacBooks and most 2023-onward laptops all charge from the same cable now, which is why this is the one to buy first if you only buy one. At 1.5m it reaches further than the cable bundled with most phones, and the aluminium shell holds up better at the connector than a plain PVC cable. It still will not charge an iPhone with a Lightning port or a pre-2023 phone that kept Micro-USB, so check your own devices before assuming one cable covers everything.
A USB-C to USB-C cable that covers most current phones, tablets and laptops sold in Malaysia; the safest single cable to own if you want just one.
Best for iPhone and iPad: Apple Lightning to USB Cable (1m)
Every iPhone from the 5 through the 14, plus most iPads with a Home button, still charges over Lightning, not USB-C, so this is the cable to keep if any device in the house is one of those. It is the same cable Apple ships in the box, sold as a standalone replacement once the original frays at the connector, usually the first part of any charging cable to go. If every Apple device in your household is an iPhone 15 or newer, skip this: those moved to USB-C, and the UGREEN cable above covers them instead.
Apple's own Lightning cable for any iPhone or iPad that has not moved to USB-C.
How we chose
We checked every cable in this guide against its live Shopee Malaysia or Lazada Malaysia listing on 30 October 2026. Two listings had gone dead since our last check: Apple's own 2m USB-C cable page, which now redirects to a search results page on Apple's Malaysian store, and the Lazada listing for the Samsung combo cable. We replaced the Apple pick with the same cable at senQ, an Apple Authorised Reseller, and moved the Samsung pick to a Shopee Malaysia seller carrying the same EP-DG930 part number. We did not buy or test any cable in this guide; every price, spec and warranty note above comes from the seller's own listing or the manufacturer's product page, not hands-on use.
How to choose a charging cable in Malaysia
USB-C, Lightning or Micro-USB: which port does your device actually use?
Check the port before anything else: the iPhone 15 and newer, current iPads and almost every 2023-onward Android phone use USB-C; an iPhone 14 or older, and most iPads with a Home button, use Lightning; anything from before about 2018 likely uses Micro-USB. The wrong cable simply will not fit, whatever the price or the wattage claims on the box.
Does the wattage printed on the box matter if your charger is weaker?
No: a cable rated for 240W, like the Apple pick above, still charges a phone fine on a 20W charger, it just will not push more power through than your charger and your device agree to send. Buy for your fastest charger today, or the one you plan to buy next, not the other way round.
Is a generic cable safe, or should you stick to the original brand?
A well-reviewed third-party cable from a seller with real sales history, like the UGREEN picks above, is fine for day-to-day charging. Stick to the original Apple or Samsung cable where a generic one visibly will not work, or where the local warranty matters more than the price, as with the Apple MacBook cable above.
Does buying from an Authorised Reseller change anything?
It changes where you go if the cable fails. senQ and other Apple Authorised Resellers in Malaysia will honour Apple's standard warranty on a genuine cable; an overseas Shopee seller, like the one we use for the Samsung combo cable above, generally will not, which is the trade-off for a lower price.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use any USB-C cable to charge my MacBook?
Most USB-C cables will charge a MacBook at some speed, but only a cable rated for your charger's full wattage, like the 240W Apple cable above, charges it at full speed. A cheap, low-wattage cable can make a MacBook charge noticeably slower without showing any warning on screen.
Why does my phone charge slower with some cables?
The cable, not just the charger, carries its own wattage and data-speed rating. An old or very thin cable often caps out well below what your charger and phone can actually do together, which is the most common reason a "fast charger" still charges slowly.
Is it safe to leave a charging cable plugged in overnight?
Modern phones, tablets and laptops stop drawing power once the battery is full, so an official or well-reviewed cable and charger left plugged in overnight is not a fire risk on its own. A frayed or damaged cable is the real risk, whatever the brand, so replace one as soon as the jacket splits near the connector.
Change note: 30 October 2026: Rebuilt this guide to our current format. Fixed two dead buy links: replaced Apple's own discontinued 2m USB-C cable listing with the same cable at senQ (an Apple Authorised Reseller), and moved the Samsung combo cable from a dead Lazada listing to a Shopee Malaysia seller carrying the same EP-DG930 part. Rewrote the direct answer to lead with a USB-C to USB-C cable as the pick most households need first. Added a "how to choose" section and three FAQ answers.
