HONOR's next flagship has a Malaysian film credit before it has a Malaysian price. The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) has named the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max the Official Cinematic Imaging Smartphone of the 35th Malaysia Film Festival (FFM35), whose awards ceremony takes place at Istana Budaya on 21 November 2026. HONOR says the phone is coming soon to Malaysia, but has not given a launch date or price.
Quick facts
- Role: Official Cinematic Imaging Smartphone Partner of FFM35, through a collaboration with FINAS
- Ceremony: 21 November 2026, Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur
- Camera partner: imaging system co-engineered with ARRI, the German cinema camera maker
- Malaysian price and date: not announced yet

Why a film festival picked a phone
The Magic9 Pro Max carries two filmmaking names at once. ARRI makes cinema cameras used on major film and television productions, and it co-engineered the phone's imaging system. FINAS is the national agency that champions Malaysian cinema. HONOR's own line for the pairing is "globally engineered, locally endorsed".

For HONOR, the FFM35 role puts the phone in front of the Malaysian film industry more than two weeks before the ceremony, and ahead of any local sale. It follows the HONOR 600S, which arrived in Malaysia at RM1,299, and the AI work HONOR has done on the Magic9 line with Alibaba's Qwen Intelligence.
What it can film

These details come from HONOR's China product and spec pages, read today, since there is no Malaysian page yet and the Malaysian model may differ. The rear camera records 4K video at 30, 60 or 120fps, so a 4K clip can be slowed to a quarter of its speed and still look smooth. The front camera also records 4K, at 30 or 60fps, which suits anyone filming themselves.
The phone records in ARRI's LogC3, a flat video profile that keeps more detail in highlights and shadows so the footage can be graded like film afterwards. HONOR says ARRI's set of 87 official Looks can be downloaded and imported into the camera app. For sound, HONOR lists a directional "shotgun" style microphone alongside an omnidirectional one, and claims pickup from up to 20 metres away.
What comes next
HONOR has not said when the Magic9 Pro Max goes on sale here or what it will cost. We will cover the Malaysian price, colours and configurations when HONOR announces them.
