The iPhone Duo Costs RM2,200 to RM2,800 More Than the Galaxy Z Fold8 in Malaysia

The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the latest in Samsung's long-running line of large folding phones, a line it has sold in Malaysia for years. The iPhone Duo is Apple's first folding iPhone. On the two makers' own Malaysian online stores, read on 31 October 2026, the iPhone Duo is priced above the Galaxy Z Fold8 at every storage tier the two phones share, by RM2,200 to RM2,800.

These are list prices on both sides, each read from the maker's own Malaysian store on the same day. We compare list price to list price throughout, a consistent basis for lining the two ladders up tier by tier.

Every tier we read, side by side

Here is every list price we read, at matched storage. The final column is how much more the iPhone Duo costs than the Galaxy Z Fold8 at that tier, list against list.

At matched storage, the iPhone Duo costs about 29 to 30 per cent more than the Galaxy Z Fold8 at each of the three tiers both phones offer (RM2,200 on RM7,299 is 30.1 per cent, RM2,400 on RM8,099 is 29.6 per cent, RM2,800 on RM9,699 is 28.9 per cent). The gap in ringgit grows as storage climbs, from RM2,200 at 256GB to RM2,800 at 1TB.

The chart below shows the same list prices. The green tag over each pair is the iPhone Duo's premium at that tier.

The cheapest iPhone Duo nearly costs as much as the dearest Galaxy Z Fold8

By list price, the entry iPhone Duo (RM9,499 for 256GB) sits just RM200 below the most expensive Galaxy Z Fold8 you can configure (the 1TB at RM9,699). So the whole iPhone Duo range begins almost where the whole Galaxy Z Fold8 range ends: buy the cheapest iPhone Duo and you have very nearly paid for the dearest Galaxy Z Fold8.

The gap at the very top is two separate things

Apple's most expensive iPhone Duo is the 2TB at RM15,499. The Galaxy Z Fold8 has no 2TB tier; its most expensive configuration is the 1TB at RM9,699 list. The distance between those two top-of-range prices is RM5,800, and it breaks into two parts that should not be run together. RM2,800 of it is the price difference already present at the shared 1TB tier (RM12,499 against RM9,699). The remaining RM3,000 is Apple's own step from 1TB to a 2TB tier (RM12,499 to RM15,499), a tier Samsung does not offer on this phone. So the headline RM5,800 gap is close to an even split: RM2,800 of it (about 48 per cent) is Apple charging more at the shared 1TB tier, and the slightly larger RM3,000 (about 52 per cent) is a storage tier only Apple offers on this phone.

That RM3,000 step for the last doubling of storage echoes the steep storage pricing we found running through Apple's own iPhone range. On the iPhone Duo the storage ladder climbs the same way, RM1,000 from 256GB to 512GB, RM2,000 to 1TB and RM3,000 to 2TB.

What this does and does not say

These are two online stores read on a single day, 31 October 2026, each the manufacturer's own Malaysian shop. Prices change, so this is a snapshot, not a trend. The comparison is of list price at matched storage, the one figure both stores state on the same basis; any day-to-day discount either maker runs is a separate, moving number and is not part of this comparison.

This compares price at a storage tier, not the phones themselves. The iPhone Duo and the Galaxy Z Fold8 are different devices with different memory, cameras, screens, software and designs, and we are not weighing any of that here, nor saying which is the better phone or the better buy. Matched storage is not matched hardware even within one phone: Samsung's own listing shows the 1TB Galaxy Z Fold8 carries 16GB of memory against 12GB on its 256GB and 512GB versions. We are also not reading any reason into why either price sits where it does. The point is narrow and checkable: at each storage size both makers sell, Apple's first foldable is listed for more than Samsung's long-established one.

The comparison is also limited to each company's large folding phone. Samsung also sells a smaller flip-style foldable (the Galaxy Z Flip8), and both makers sell conventional slab phones, all of which are separate comparisons. For the slab flagships, when we read both makers' Malaysian stores the iPhone 18 Pro Max and Galaxy S26 Ultra started at the same list price, which makes the foldable gap the sharper contrast of the two.

How to reproduce this

Open the iPhone Duo buy page on apple.com/my and the Galaxy Z Fold8 buy page on samsung.com/my on the same day. Both pages carry machine-readable price data: Apple lists a price for each storage and colour as a product object, and Samsung lists both a "price" (its list price) and a "promotionPrice" for each model. Read the price at each storage tier, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB on both phones and, for the iPhone Duo, 2TB, and line the two up tier by tier. Keep list against list, and record any on-the-day discount as its own figure so the two ladders stay comparable.
