BYD Sime Motors has opened its largest 3S centre in Sarawak, a 12,228 sq ft facility in Miri that brings sales, service and spare parts under one roof for electric vehicle owners in the north of the state. The official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia announced the opening on 12 October 2026, describing it as the latest step in expanding its aftersales reach across East Malaysia.

What the Miri 3S centre offers

The centre is split between a 5,838 sq ft showroom that can display five vehicles and a 6,390 sq ft service area with six service bays. Together they can handle up to 35 vehicles a day. BYD Sime Motors says the site also has a customer lounge, a bar counter, a discussion room, a dedicated vehicle delivery bay, and EV charging for sales and service customers.

It is the largest BYD 3S centre in Sarawak to date. The "3S" label covers sales, service and spare parts, the three functions a full dealership is expected to handle, which matters most for EV owners who would rather service a car locally than send it to another city.

BYD's third outlet in Sarawak

With Miri open, BYD Sime Motors now runs three authorised outlets in Sarawak, after Kuching and Sibu. The brand opened East Malaysia's first BYD 3S centre in Kota Kinabalu in December 2024, and the Miri addition strengthens coverage in the northern part of the state as EV ownership spreads beyond the larger cities. Malaysia's wider move to electric cars has been visible all year, from Proton e.MAS passing 40,000 deliveries to a record September for new car registrations.

The Miri centre is operated by Kah Progression Auto Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Oriental Holdings Berhad, which has more than 60 years in the automotive trade across Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. The outlet runs with 15 staff across its sales and aftersales operations.

"The opening of the Miri 3S Centre marks a milestone for BYD in Sarawak. As more customers embrace electric mobility, we want to ensure that our network grows alongside them, with convenient access not only to our vehicles, but also to the service and aftersales care that underpin a positive ownership experience," said Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Motors, Southeast Asia.

Jacob Ma, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, called the opening "another important step in strengthening BYD's presence in East Malaysia", adding that the company wants to make its vehicles and aftersales support more accessible as EV adoption grows beyond major cities.

Roadshow at Bintang Megamall this week

To mark the launch, Kah Progression Auto will run an interactive roadshow at the Ground Floor, East Court (Old Wing) of Bintang Megamall in Miri from 16 to 18 October 2026, open daily from 10am to 10pm. The push comes as services of all kinds reach deeper into East Malaysia, from new dealerships to U Mobile's rollout of off-grid 5G in rural Sarawak and Sabah.
