Proton e.MAS Hits 40,000 EVs, 40% Off Charging in October

Malaysia's growing group of Proton e.MAS drivers is about to get a week of savings that shows up on the monthly bill. From 1 October, owners can charge their cars at 40% off, part of a wider set of ownership perks the brand rolled out to mark its 40,000th delivery.

PRO-NET, the PROTON Holdings subsidiary that runs the e.MAS brand, handed over its 40,000th vehicle on 29 September in Subang Jaya. The number arrived within 20 months of the brand's launch, and it is the peg for a run of benefits covering charging, servicing, trade-ins, insurance and rewards.

Proton e.MAS cuts charging by 40%, with no coupon to chase

The headline offer is the easiest one to use. From 11am on 1 October to 11am on 5 October, Proton e.MAS owners pay 40% less to charge through the Proton e.MAS app, with no registration or redemption step. You charge as usual and the discounted rate applies.

Charging cost is the question most EV buyers actually weigh, so the longer-term changes matter more than the four-day promotion. The app now aligns its prices with the participating charge point operators' own apps, so owners see the same rate without juggling multiple accounts, and it reaches 12 operators in one place. Proton is quoting preferential rates of up to RM1.20/kWh at DC Handal chargers, and 20% off at RExharge points through the app from 5 October to 31 December. It builds on the brand's earlier work on its own branded charging stations.

Cheaper servicing, trade-ins and insurance

Away from charging, the milestone brings a spread of dated offers for owners to plan around:

  • 10% off service and maintenance from 1 to 31 October, with an exclusive Proton e.MAS 5 Touch 'n Go card for the first 1,000 service customers.
  • Up to RM1,000 in extra trade-in rebate through CARSOME, from 1 October to 31 December.
  • RM100 in complimentary charging credit for the first 5,000 customers who buy or renew an e.MAS Care Elite or Flex insurance policy through selected panels, plus a lucky draw that includes a Huawei Watch GT 7 and Huawei Band 11.

Proton says its service network now holds 98.8% parts availability and is training certified EV technicians with MARA, the kind of aftersales groundwork that decides whether a growing owner base stays happy once the warranty novelty wears off.

A rewards app that pays you to drive

The brand is also adding PassGo, a drive-to-earn feature in the Proton e.MAS app. From 29 September, owners who link their vehicle get 300 welcome points and then earn a point for every eligible kilometre, redeemable for Grab, Touch 'n Go, foodpanda and Lazada vouchers or merchandise. A refreshed version of the app, built with ACOTech, is planned before the end of the year. Owners also get 10% off drinks at participating ZUS Coffee outlets, and an RM5,000 instant rebate on eligible Huawei FusionSolar home solar setups.

Why 40,000 matters

The figure is a marker for how quickly EVs have moved from novelty to normal on Malaysian roads, where Proton e.MAS crossed 30,000 registrations only recently. "Every vehicle represents a customer who has chosen to be part of our journey," said Zhang Qiang, CEO of PRO-NET, framing the benefits as a way to give back. The network stands at 60 dealers with more than 1,600 trained staff, and PRO-NET is targeting 70 outlets, including 57 service centres and 14 Body and Paint centres, by the end of 2026.

For anyone already driving an e.MAS, the takeaway is practical: the first week of October is the cheapest time this year to top up, and several of the other perks run to December, so there is time to plan the bigger ones.
