For Malaysians weighing whether a home-grown electric car can hold its own, Proton's EV arm has posted a figure that answers the question. Proton e.MAS has reached 31,504 xEV registrations, which PRO-NET says makes it the fastest automotive brand in Malaysia to pass 30,000.

Proton e.MAS passes 30,000 xEV registrations
PRO-NET, the PROTON subsidiary behind the e.MAS brand, recorded 31,504 xEV registrations as at 31 July 2026, a mark it reached 20 months after the e.MAS 7 launched in December 2024. Of those, 30,293 are domestic registrations. The brand also recently passed 20,000 registrations in 2026 alone, already more than its full 2025 volume within the first half of the year.
Which models are driving the numbers
Sales are spread across the three-model range, with the more affordable e.MAS 5 doing most of the heavy lifting:
- e.MAS 5: Malaysia's best-selling EV model, 13,279 units delivered.
- e.MAS 7: best-selling C-segment EV SUV, 12,068 units.
- e.MAS 7 PHEV: best-selling plug-in hybrid, 4,946 units.
Exports have started too. More than 1,211 units have been delivered overseas, including 130 of the newer e.MAS 5.
The network behind the sales
Proton e.MAS now runs 58 dealerships, 45 service centres and 10 Body and Paint centres nationwide. On charging, its Integrated Live Charging Map lists more than 4,700 charging points covering over 90% of the country, including more than 1,500 points across over 600 condominiums. Owners at participating high-rise partners can charge from as low as RM0.63 per kWh when they pay through the Proton e.MAS app.
Local assembly and a bigger plant
All three e.MAS models are now assembled in Malaysia, with the e.MAS 7 PHEV carrying 30% local content. PROTON has committed an additional RM37 million to its EV manufacturing facility, lifting annual capacity from 20,000 to 42,000 units to meet domestic and export demand. The company ties the effort to the government's National Energy Transition Roadmap.
"Surpassing 30,000 Proton e.MAS registrations in just 20 months reflects the growing confidence Malaysians have in electric mobility," said Zhang Qiang, chief executive of PRO-NET.
