Charging access is the question that follows almost every Malaysian thinking about switching to an electric car, and Proton is putting its answer in more public car parks. PROTON New Energy Technology (PRO-NET), the company behind the Proton e.MAS brand, is placing its name on charging stations nationwide and giving owners a cheaper way to top up when they pay through the brand's own app.

What the e.MAS charging partnership covers

PRO-NET has signed partnerships with three established charging point operators, DC Handal, JomCharge and chargEV, to introduce Proton e.MAS branded charging stations across the country. The companies will work together on branding and marketing at participating sites while expanding charging infrastructure and support for e.MAS owners.

The rollout is set to begin in the third quarter of 2026, starting at one popular destination before spreading to other high-traffic public locations where drivers regularly travel and spend time. At participating stations, e.MAS owners who pay through the Proton e.MAS app will get discounted charging rates. The exact rates will be worked out between PRO-NET and each operator.

What it means for e.MAS owners

e.MAS drivers already reach more than 4,700 charging points, covering over 90% of Malaysia, through the Proton e.MAS app, backed by the Integrated Live Charging Map built into the vehicles. The branded stations add a recognisable, discounted option on top of that network rather than replacing it.

Because the three partners are established operators with their own support teams, owners also get help when something goes wrong at a bay, which is often the real friction point rather than the plug itself.

"The integration of charging access with the Proton e.MAS app gives us an opportunity to make the charging experience simpler and more rewarding for e.MAS owners," said Ahmad Munif Halim, Head of Charging at PRO-NET.

Part of a wider e.MAS build-out

The tie-up is another step in Proton's effort to grow the e.MAS ecosystem beyond the cars. The brand recently passed 30,000 EV registrations in Malaysia and has been widening the network that supports them, including certifying its first batch of dedicated EV technicians. PRO-NET says the charging initiative also supports the government's localisation agenda by opening more room for local vendors in the country's EV supply chain.

When you can use it

The first Proton e.MAS branded stations are due from the third quarter of 2026. Proton has not yet named the launch location or the size of the discount, so those are the details worth watching for closer to rollout. Until then, e.MAS owners can keep using the existing network through the app while the branded sites come online.
