Acer has built the first convertible version of Google's new laptop. The Acer Googlebook 14, unveiled in Taipei on 21 September, is the company's first entry in the Googlebook category, and Acer says it is the industry's first Googlebook with a 360-degree hinge that folds flat into a tablet. It starts at USD 899 in the United States, and no Malaysian price has been announced yet.

What a Googlebook is
A Googlebook is Google's successor to the Chromebook, a laptop that combines Android with ChromeOS and builds the Gemini assistant into the system rather than adding it as an app. Because it runs on Android, it opens native Android apps and syncs closely with Android phones. We covered the category this morning, when Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite arrived in the first Dell and HP Googlebooks. Acer's model runs on Intel instead.
What Acer put inside
The Googlebook 14 runs up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor 355 with a dedicated NPU (neural processing unit) rated at up to 50 TOPS for on-device AI, paired with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to 512 GB of PCIe Gen 4 storage. Acer rates the battery at up to 16 hours and says fast charging reaches 80 percent in an hour. The 14-inch screen is a 3K OLED touch panel at a 16:10 ratio, 500 nits bright, finished in Corning Gorilla Glass and able to take a USI 2.0 stylus.
A 1.14 kg convertible
At 1.14 kg and 13.9 mm thick, the Googlebook 14 is built from an aluminium-magnesium blend in an Elemental Blue finish, with a Glowbar strip on the lid that shifts colour to show battery and charging status. The 360-degree hinge gives four modes: clamshell, tent, stand and tablet. Connectivity covers Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, one Thunderbolt 4 port and two USB-C ports, and there is a 5 MP webcam with a privacy shutter, a fingerprint reader in the power button and a Google Titan-C security chip.
Gemini features and a year of Google AI Pro
Acer leans on the Gemini tools the platform is built around. Continue On carries a task from an Android phone to the laptop, Cast My Apps runs phone apps on the laptop without installing them, and Magic Pointer turns a cursor wiggle into an on-screen action. Every Googlebook 14 comes with 12 months of Google AI Pro, which Acer values at USD 239.88, plus 5 TB of cloud storage.
Price and what it means for Malaysia
Acer will sell the Googlebook 14 in North America from October 2026 at USD 899, in Europe from October at EUR 1,199, and in Australia from November at AUD 2,599. It has not announced Malaysian pricing, availability or specifications, which it says vary by region.
