Sonos 27 Launches in Malaysia With Beam Ultra Soundbar at RM4,199

If your soundbar, speakers and headphones have never felt like one system, Sonos wants to close that gap. The company has introduced Sonos 27, the newest version of its audio operating system, alongside two new products built around it: the Beam Ultra soundbar and the Sonos Ace Ultra headphones. TC Acoustic, Sonos' official distributor in Malaysia, has brought all three here, with Beam Ultra priced at RM4,199 and Sonos Ace Ultra at RM2,299.

TC Acoustic marked its own 60th year in audio distribution last month with a sale on Sonos and Bowers & Wilkins gear, and this launch follows the same distributor that brought the Sonos Arc Ultra to Malaysia.

An operating system that listens to more than your speakers

Sonos 27's headline feature is AI control through multiple assistants and agents. That includes Sonos 27voice, the company's own assistant built for music and mood curation, and Sonos 27mcp, which lets listeners connect their Sonos system to AI assistants of their choice, including OpenAI's ChatGPT, so they can ask an assistant to play music anywhere in the home without leaving the conversation. Sonos is also previewing Sonos Custom Agents, letting users build their own agents with a chosen model, persona and voice.

Sound that moves with you

A new system capability called Sonos Fabric lets Sonos products sense each other and adapt to the moment. Headphone linking, an Early Access feature, connects the Sonos Ace Ultra directly to the Sonos system so listeners can move sound between nearby speakers and their headphones. Separately, Sonos Positioning Technology uses high-frequency sound to sense a speaker's location, letting compatible portable speakers become rear surrounds automatically when moved into position. A redesigned Sonos 27 app rounds out the update with easier navigation and control.

Beam Ultra: a compact soundbar with real Atmos

Beam Ultra keeps the compact form of the original Beam while adding true 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos through nine custom drivers, including two dedicated up-firing drivers, plus a redesigned centre channel for clearer dialogue and warmer bass than before. Four levels of AI Speech Enhancement give more control over dialogue clarity, and a Night Sound mode is built for late-night viewing. It can be expanded later with a Sub or rear surrounds, including compatible Sonos portable speakers.

Sonos Ace Ultra: headphones built into the system

Sonos Ace Ultra is the company's newest premium over-ear headphone, with a Sonos-designed 40mm driver, Adaptive ANC powered by ten microphones, and up to 35 hours of battery life with ANC switched on. It is the first headphone built on Sonos' Headphone Engine 2, the hardware that enables headphone linking: with one press, a listener can move whatever is playing on their Sonos system to the headphones, or send it back, without needing a phone nearby.

Sonos has also added a new Sand colourway to its portable Sonos Play speaker, priced at RM1,899.

Price and where to buy in Malaysia

Beam Ultra (RM4,199, Black or White) and Sonos Ace Ultra (RM2,299, in Black, White, Agave or Sand) are open for pre-order on tcacoustic.asia and at the Sonos Concept Store at The Starhill in Kuala Lumpur, alongside the Sonos Play in Sand at RM1,899. Beam Ultra and selected Sonos Ace Ultra colours are also available for pre-order on Lazada Malaysia, and all three products reach retail shelves from 29 September.

For anyone who already owns a Sonos speaker or two, the more interesting change may not be a single new product but the software underneath it: a system that is starting to move sound, and control, wherever the listener goes.
