Malaysia now registers one electric car in every 13 sold, and buyers weighing a compact electric SUV have another option that is meant to handle a highland weekend as well as the morning commute. Volvo Car Malaysia has launched the Volvo EX30 Cross Country, its first fully electric Cross Country model, priced from RM218,888 before insurance and assembled locally.

What the EX30 Cross Country adds
The Cross Country is built on the standard EX30 but sits 19mm higher, on a revised chassis and 19-inch wheels tuned to soak up rougher surfaces. The twin-motor all-wheel-drive setup produces 428 hp and 543 Nm of torque, enough for a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.7 seconds. Volvo quotes a range of up to 437 km on the WLTP cycle from the 69 kWh battery, which charges from 10 to 80 percent in about 27 minutes on a 175 kW DC charger.
Inside, a 12.3-inch centre screen runs Google built-in, so Google Maps, Assistant and the Play Store are native rather than mirrored, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto also supported. A Harman Kardon sound system, a 360-degree camera and sensor array, Pilot Assist and Park Pilot Assist are part of the package. The cabin leans on recycled and bio-based materials, including upcycled denim and Volvo's Nordico upholstery, and keeps the EX30's storage tricks: door bins where the speakers would normally sit, a removable rear box that doubles as a waste bin, and a boot that holds 318 litres, or 718 litres with the rear seats folded.

Where it sits in Malaysia's EV market
Volvo was the first brand to assemble electric vehicles locally for the ASEAN market, and the EX30 Cross Country slots below the larger EX90 that Volvo Malaysia launched earlier at RM428,888. It arrives as adoption climbs: one in every 13 new cars registered in Malaysia is now electric, and the segment is no longer led by a single premium badge. A raised, all-wheel-drive electric SUV under RM220,000 puts Volvo against a growing field of Chinese and Korean EVs, though few of those carry the Cross Country's off-tarmac tuning or Volvo's safety kit as standard.
Price, colours and the early-bird offer
The locally assembled EX30 Cross Country is on sale now at authorised Volvo dealers nationwide from RM218,888 without insurance, in Crystal White, Vapour Grey and Cloud Blue. The first 100 reservations get a package Volvo values at more than RM21,000: an RM12,000 cash rebate, a Volvo Wallbox home charger (RM3,990), a load carrier (RM2,098) and a roof basket (RM3,680).
Alongside it, the standard EX30 Ultra has been repriced for the 2027 model year, now starting from RM198,888 without insurance and adding Onyx Black to its colour range. Volvo has also introduced a Digital Service Booking system on its website and app for scheduling servicing, starting with Klang Valley retailers.
For a Malaysian buyer who wants an electric SUV that can leave the city without leaving comfort behind, the EX30 Cross Country gives Volvo a rugged-flavoured entry at a price that undercuts most of its European rivals.
