Malaysian buyers looking at the premium electric SUV segment have a new locally assembled option to weigh. Volvo Car Malaysia has launched the evolved, fully electric Volvo EX90, a seven-seat flagship SUV assembled in Shah Alam and priced from RM428,888 before insurance.
The car is open for booking now and can be viewed at authorised Volvo dealers nationwide from today. To reward early commitments, the first 100 units booked come with an RM25,000 cash rebate and a Volvo Wallbox home charger worth RM3,990.

What is under the skin
The headline change on this evolved EX90 is an upgraded 800-volt electrical architecture, paired with a Twin Motor all-wheel-drive setup. That combination produces 680 hp and 870 Nm of torque, enough for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 4.2 seconds. A 106 kWh battery gives a WLTP range of up to 617 km on a single charge.
The 800V system also matters for charging. Volvo quotes DC fast charging at up to 350 kW, which takes the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 22 minutes. The higher-voltage setup reduces weight and heat during charging and leans less on copper, which Volvo frames as part of its sustainability goals. Volvo Malaysia has been building electric cars locally for years, having become the first brand to assemble EVs here for the ASEAN market.
A software-defined car
The EX90 runs on an NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin-based core computer, with Volvo's Superset technology stack layered on top to handle over-the-air software updates. Those updates can add features and improvements across infotainment, battery management, safety and driving performance after the car is bought. Infotainment is built around Google services, including Google Assistant, Google Maps and the Google Play Store, shown across a 9-inch driver display, a 14.5-inch centre screen and a head-up display. A Bowers and Wilkins audio system handles sound.
Safety, as expected from Volvo
Safety remains the centre of Volvo's pitch. The EX90 carries the brand's Safe Space Technology, a suite of radars and ultrasonic sensors for a real-time read of the surroundings. Inside, two infrared sensors run a Driver Understanding System that watches for distraction or impairment, while interior radars form an Occupant Sensing System sensitive enough to detect the breathing of a child left in the cabin. Next-generation Pilot Assist and Park Pilot Assist are included. Volvo's local safety messaging has reached beyond the car itself, including its recent Selamat Calculator built with Mr Money TV.
Colours, cabin and the ES90 update
Buyers can choose from five exterior colours: Onyx Black, Sand Dune, Crystal White, Vapour Grey and Mulberry Red. Two interior themes are offered, Charcoal Nappa leather with Light Ash decor, or Cardamom Nappa leather with Brown Ash. Alongside the EX90, Volvo's electric ES90 saloon gets a model-year 2027 update with two new colours (Mulberry and Aurora Silver), an added Cardamom interior, new 21-inch wheels and wireless Android Auto. Early ES90 bookings carry cash rebates of up to RM17,600.

At RM428,888, the EX90 sits firmly in luxury territory, but local assembly, a genuinely long range and a heavy dose of software and safety technology give it a clear argument in a fast-growing part of the Malaysian market.
