OPPO's Reno16 has been one of the more eye-catching phones to land in Malaysia this year, and it now comes with two fresh reasons to look again: a new 512GB storage version, and a limited-edition tie-up with the cartoon penguin Pingu.

A 512GB Reno16 for people who shoot a lot

OPPO has added a variant with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage to the Reno16 line-up, aimed at buyers who fill their phones with photos, videos and apps. It carries a recommended retail price of RM3,499 and comes in two colours, Twilight Violet and Pop White. It is sold through OPPO's official online channels and its physical stores.

Until 16 August 2026, every purchase comes with an introductory RM200 rebate, which brings the first-sale price down to RM3,299, along with a Reno16 Series Gift Box and a complimentary one-year screen protection plan.

The Reno16 x Pingu collaboration

The bigger talking point for fans is the Reno16 x Pingu collaboration. OPPO has worked with the classic claymation character to make limited-edition Reno merchandise, and customers who buy OPPO Bubbles will receive an exclusive Pingu Bubble Case while stocks last. It suits the playful, summery look of the Pop White edition, which OPPO showed off at its Summer Party at The Nyaman Place Glamping in Kuala Lumpur.

How it fits the rest of the range

The Reno16 Series first went on sale in Malaysia from RM1,899 across the Reno16 F, Reno16 and Reno16 Pro, so the 512GB model sits at the top of the storage options rather than being a new phone. The Pop White version is the one to watch on design: it uses OPPO's HoloVerse 3D technology to create a floating planet effect on the back cover that shifts as the light catches it.

On the camera side, OPPO leans on its Ultra-Clear Camera System and a set of AI editing tools, including Pop Cam, AI Flash Photography 3.0, AI Remix Collage and AI Motion Photo Popout 2.0, with the editing features grouped under a Create tab. The tools are aimed at people who shoot and share social content, which is also where the extra 512GB of storage earns its keep.

Character collaborations like this are a familiar way for phone makers to stand out in a busy mid-to-upper range, and a free case tied to a well-known character gives buyers a reason to act during the launch window.
