Even before Samsung launched the Galaxy S23 series during Galaxy Unpacked 2023, the flagship smartphones were already making headlines with rumours, speculations, and leaks. Now that the Galaxy S23 Series is finally out, we can gasp excitedly (or less so, you decide) at all the specs and upgrades.
One of the most anticipated upgrades for this year’s Samsung flagships was definitely the cameras. We all know that the Galaxy S22 Ultra was one of the best camera smartphones of last year, especially in low-light photography where Samsung’s Nightography kicks in, but it seems like Samsung is taking it even further: by adding a 200MP camera to the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Yes, you heard it right, a 200MP camera.
Specifically, the Galaxy S23 Ultra boasts a spanking new 200MP Adaptive Pixel sensor. For perspective, the Galaxy S22 Ultra only had 108MP on its main camera.
It sounds like a major upgrade, and it is. More pixels means the cameras take in more light, which means better resolution, which means more details… you get the idea. However, image quality depends more on just megapixels.
Other than just the hardware, Samsung has also optimised the software on the Gaalxy S23 Ultra to improve its Nightography capabilities. The flagship smartphone will be able to grab sharper images in almost any lighting condition, thanks to the new AI-powered image signal processing (ISP) algorithm that enhances the colour and details of your photos.
The selfie camera on the Galaxy S23 series is 12MP with fast autofocus and Super HDR across the board. On paper, it sounds like a downgrade on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, since the Galaxy S22 Ultra had a 40MP selfie camera.
But again, numbers don’t mean everything. It’s also Samsung’s first Super HDR selfie camera, so we’re promised better image processing for selfies. Plus, front-facing videos should be better too since we can shoot up to 60fps now!
It’s all just paper specs we’re talking about right now, so it’s hard to say exactly how good the 200MP and Super HDR cameras will be. One thing is sure: we can’t wait to get our hands on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra!
