If you’re like us and you game primarily on the PS5, you’ll want to take full advantage of that 4K resolution at high refresh rates. Unfortunately, that means you’ll need a really capable TV that not only does 4K at 120Hz — it also needs to have HDR10+, VRR, Freesync, Dolby Atmos, ultra-low latency modes, and more.
Now, all these specs are not exactly rare, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a single TV that fits exactly what you need. That’s why we’re here today to help you pick the perfect Philips TV to fit your needs.

The Philips 4K TV Buying Guide
For this guide, we’re going with Philips TVs because we’ve been working a lot with the brand’s TVs and they make sense for 4K gaming with their easy Plug and Play. There are a fair few models that will fit every person’s individual gaming needs in different price ranges, and we’ll be going through all of them in this article.

The Basics: For The Story-based Players
So, you want a 4K TV that gives you a great gaming experience for more story-based games, and you don’t really care much about high refresh rates. That said, you still want those great features like Dolby Vision, HDR, and Dolby Atmos, because immersion is your mode de vie.
If this is you, then Philips’ 7406 or the 7906 4K TVs are your best choices. The latter comes with Ambilight, while the former doesn’t.
You can watch the full in-depth video we’ve made on these TVs right here:
Sure, these may not come with the highest refresh rate, but the quality and the gaming experience for the price point are quite remarkable. In games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Far Cry 6, or Spiderman, our gaming experience is incredibly immersive thanks to the stunning visuals and low latency, even if the refresh rate is just only 60Hz. It’s very much sufficient for story-based gamers.
Take It Up A Notch: Storylines With Fancy Features
If you have a slightly higher budget, the Philips 8500 series will be the higher-end option. You’ll get support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). It also has improved motion smoothness and the P5 Picture Engine.

At The Top of The Pecking Order: For The Best Players Out There
And for those of us who want to use the PS5 to its maximum potential — we’re talking 4K 120Hz gaming — let’s move on to the OLED and mini LED panels. Naturally, you can expect the price range to go up quite significantly with these TVs.
For OLED lovers, we recommend Philips’ OLED 706. This TV is a true-to-its-name gaming TV, with HDMI 2.1, 4K @ 120Hz, HDR10+, a built-in subwoofer, and so much more.
Essentially, this is THE TV to get from Philips if you want the best console OLED gaming experience if you have the budget for it. This was our favourite TV out of the bunch. We loved using it for gaming, as we were able to get deep blacks and the HDR feature provided a remarkably immersive gaming experience. See for yourself in our full video review below:
Alternatively, if OLEDs are too expensive for you, you can consider the Philips MiniLED 9506 4K TV. With this, you’re basically getting almost everything that you would from the OLED, just a t a lower price point.
The deep blacks are not exactly up to par with the OLED, but it’s close enough with the punchiness with a brighter output. You’ll still get all that incredible 4K @ 120Hz, Dolby Vision, HDR+, and everything else on a slightly smaller budget.
Conclusion
It’s pretty incredible to see TVs that support 4K resolution at 120Hz refresh rate, as that is one of the biggest disadvantages of going console. We loved Phillips’ TVs because they allowed us to unleash the full potential of console gaming.
Plus, Philips’ TVs are smart enough to detect when you’ve turned on your console and swap into a low-latency mode, which improves latency for better gaming, especially in FPS games like Call of Duty, where every input counts.
And of course, we can’t really talk about Philips’ TVs without mentioning the Ambilight feature. The Ambilight is essentially the array of LEDs behind the TV that illuminates the scene of whatever’s on the screen to the wall behind. It’s a simple yet incredible feature that enhances everything you do with the TV, especially when gaming.
The Philips TVs are a great companion for console players, especially if you want low latency gaming, variable refresh rates, support for HDR, great colour contrasts, and of course, ambient lights that take your gaming experience to another level. Phllips’ TVs create a gaming experience that’s very hard to replicate on other gaming TVs.
