OPPO Enco Air2 Pro Review: Good Budget Earphones But With An Issue

We really like these earbuds, but there’s just one tiny problem.

Following the success of the budget-friendly OPPO Enco Air2 earphones, the brand released the OPPO Enco Air2 Pro. The former earbuds boasted satisfactory music performance with notably good battery life.

So with this new Pro variant out, what exactly has changed from their previous model, and is it worth upgrading from the Enco Air2, or even getting the Enco Air2 Pro in the first place?

Our colleague, Alby Thum, who is an earbuds fan and collector, spent about a week with the gadget to clearly relay his thoughts and experiences.

Design

On first impression, the Enco Air2 Pro looked promising. The small rounded form factor and the compact design made it seem like an easy-to-carry everyday earphone that would come in handy anytime you need to listen to your tunes. It also has this pristine, “bubble” case around the charging case for added protection.

Each earbud has a 43mAh battery capacity whereas the charging case holds about 440mAh worth of battery. These earphones utilise a USB C port for charging and have Bluetooth 5.2 support with up to 10m range connectivity.

The whole thing weighs about 50g, and even has IP54 water and dust resistance rating, making them safe for sports and outdoor activities.

Build-quality-wise, it feels comfortable to hold and keep in your pocket, with the unique opening mechanism being quite smooth.

These earphones also promise some responsive features like “Tap to pause and play” as well as being able to activate your smart assistant, like Siri & Google.

Unfortunately, we didn’t appreciate how the earbud cover had to be laid down instead of being able to stand on its own and would have liked a change when it came to the case design to accommodate this.

Performance

Now, onto the deciding factor for these earbuds.

Music:

These earbuds utilise a 12.4mm titanium-coated diaphragm driver. When it comes to sound quality, we found the Enco Air2 Pro to produce some great, immersive crisp audio.

Music was loud without being overly so, and although the bass was satisfactory, we would have appreciated just a bit more punch to our music. Other than that, ANC was also working quite well without any issues.

Battery Life:

In terms of battery life, the Enco Air2 Pro was superb. Our reviewer is constantly out of the office and his home, so the battery reliance was highly appreciated here.

Tested often in the gym, we usually use them for about two hours before getting them charged again, so we had no real problems when it comes to the battery capacity. We also want to give credit to the design of the earbuds themselves, since even during our exercise sessions, we found that they hardly fell off or loose from the ear canal.

Features & Connectivity:

Now, here are a few downsides to the device, although they might be due to the fact that we received a “faulty unit”.

Tested on an iPhone and a Samsung device; out of the five tapping features advertised, we could only get the double tap feature to work (skip to next track or accept/decline call).

Not even the tap-to-snap-image function, something that was heavily prominent in the advertising material, worked. Said function actually helps to take a photo with just a single tap.

The earbuds also had trouble pausing music when we took off one of the earbuds, another feature that failed to deliver on its promise. This isn’t even mentioning how we had trouble accessing the smart assistant feature no matter if we were in both loud and quiet environments.

Here’s the thing; other reviewers said the taps were seamless, so we do suspect that ours was a faulty unit. And since these are all softwares issues, we are hoping these might be fixed with either a software update or we simply received a faulty unity.

Alternatively, the features might have worked perfectly if they had been used with an OPPO device which won’t be surprising.

Conclusion

  • Our rating: 6/10
  • Pros: Good sound quality; Very loud speaker; Does not fall off easily out of the ear canal; pretty solid and good-looking build quality; has water and dust resistant rating
  • Cons: Issue with tapping features (ours might have been faulty); music auto-pause isn’t entirely accurate; not too responsive to voice activation
  • Who is it for? If you want an easy-to-use pair of earbuds that offer great music quality for the price, minus perfect tapping features, the OPPO Enco Air2 Pro will be a good pick for you.

What did we love? The OPPO Enco Air2 Pro performs well when it comes to sound quality and audio. Everything sounded clear and loud, and there was a good amount of bass.

Alas, what did we dislike? Everything seems to fall apart when it comes to the software side of the device. However, this could be something that can be fixed with an OS update or two.

We do think these earbuds are still great for anyone looking to get decent budget earbuds. The OPPO Enco Air2 Pro has a great price tag, especially since they’re under RM400.

“Might not be the best because of the annoying ‘faulty features’, but I kinda like the product.” - Alby Thum
