Apple announced a new version of their operating system on 6 June 2022 at the WDCC 2022 conference. iOS 16 will come with new intelligent features, communication features, and sharing features complete with better privacy and security settings.
iOS 16 will be compatible with devices from iPhone 8 and above. For the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and the iPhone SE (1st generation), iOS 15 will be the last software update.

Here are some of the key features you can expect from iOS 16:
Messaging & Personalization
- With iOS 16, you’ll be able to personalize your lock screen by changing wallpapers, clock font and font colours, and also add widgets and reposition photos.
- Accidentally sent the wrong message to the wrong group? iOS 16 will feature the ability to edit or delete messages even after they have been sent. You can also mark message threads as unread so that you can easily go back to them at a later time.
- Mail will have the ability to schedule and recall messages, with an additional feature that allows users to mark a message to be reminded to read or reply later.
- Live Text now works with video, so you can use the feature to convert currency, translate text and signs, copy and paste text from video, and track flights or shipments
Payment & Connectivity
- Apple Pay will soon allow instalments through Apple Pay Later, where payments for purchases can be split into four payments over a six-week period with no interest and no fees.
- Your iPhone will be able to track steps and provide fitness guidance even without an Apple Watch. The Fitness App for iPhone will be able to work independently with a wearable device.
- The new CarPlay feature allows you to connect your device to your car and project an Apple interface onto your car’s infotainment display. From there, you can control your device by voice or touch.
- You’ll be able to plan a road trip or a vacation easier with the new multi-stop routing in Apple Maps, which allows you to create driving directions on your devices and add up to 15 stops along your route.
Privacy & Security
- iOS 16 will allow parents easier access to configure devices for children, set parental controls automatically, and review the settings periodically as the child grows.
- The new Safety Check feature furthers Apple’s commitment to security and privacy on its devices. It allows you to revoke Find My Acess with users you’ve shared access with, reset sharing permissions, and show a list of all users you’re sharing information with.
iOS 16 is now available in beta for developers registered in Apple’s Developer Program, while a public beta is speculated to open for registration in July 2022. The system is expected to be rolled out for all iOS users later this year.
