FAQs

- How Often Should You Wash Your Bedsheets?

It’s advisable to wash your sheets once a week if you sleep on your mattress every day.

If your furkids sleep on your bed, then you ought to wash your sheets even more frequently. The same goes if you have asthma or other kinds of allergies to ensure that your sheets are clean and dust-free.

- What's the Difference Between Bedspread and Bedsheet?

Both bedspreads and bedsheets are bed linens.

The main difference between a bedspread and a bedsheet is that bedspreads typically cover the bed whilst, bedsheets cover the mattress.

A bedspread is a decorative thicker layer that is used to cover the entire bed. It also protects both the mattress and bedsheet. Due to its heavier weight and complex designs, a bedspread is usually more expensive than a bedsheet.

A bedsheet, on the other hand, is made of much thinner and lighter material that is tucked snugly over the mattress, serves as a protective outer layer.

- How to choose bedsheets?

Have trouble deciding on a set of sheets? Getting to know a few basics about the materials they're constructed of can help you in your decision, and weigh the pros and cons.

You'll want to be certain you're purchasing bedding that is both comfortable and long-lasting. Some materials may be more suited to your demands than others. Here's a guide on picking the best sheets for you.

1. Read-up on fibre content first

Cotton is usually a good choice because it is soft and inexpensive. If you want something more luxurious, Extra-Long Staple (ELS) cotton, such as Egyptian or Pima, is even softer and is more durable.

The downside is that these sheets may be more expensive. Beware of false labels so you don’t overpay for sheets that are not genuine Egyptian cotton.

Cotton/polyester mixtures are a good alternative. Though the fabric has a synthetic feel to it, polyester is less costly, more durable, and is less resistant to wrinkling so it’s not too bad a tradeoff.

2. Thread Count

The number of horizontal and vertical threads per square inch is referred to as thread count. Manufacturing processes enable companies to manufacture high thread counts without sacrificing quality.

The greater the thread count, the finer the sheet and the more likely it will age well, softening with time.

Good sheets have numerals ranging from 200 to 800, with numbers exceeding 1,000 on occasion. A high thread count does not necessarily indicate that the sheets are of high quality.

It’s possible that sheets of a lower thread count could have better breathability and feel softer as it actually depends on the material the sheet is made of.

In an effort to increase thread count for the sake of doing so, manufacturers may use shorter threads which may result in piling in the sheets.

3. Assuming it will “fit” your mattress

Mattress depth is not taken into account in standard sizes like Queen or King. So, if yours is tall or you use a mattress topper, make sure to measure it before you make your purchase. You should also consider the fact that shrinking might occur after washing. Fitted sheets that mattresses of suit up to 15-inches have generally done well in fitting tests.

4. Microfiber vs Cotton

Microfiber fabric sheets are made out of incredibly fine polyester strands that are both inexpensive and soft, and they withstand pilling better than ordinary polyester fabric. Polyester, on the other hand, is less absorbent than cotton and is not recommended for individuals with sensitive skin.

Cotton jersey sheets are likewise fairly priced, and since they are knit rather than woven, are highly breathable. Jersey sheets, which are simply t-shirt fabric, may appeal to you if you prefer sleeping in a nice old shirt.

5. Weave Types

Commonly, the weave of the fabric and the manufacturing approach taken will not play a significant role in your purchase; in fact, they may not even be mentioned on the box.

However, there are a few types you should be aware of:

  • Sateen is a cotton fabric with a satin weave, which gives a very silky, glossy feel but is less durable than a finer weave.
  • Percale is a crisp, durable plain weave fabric with a thread count of at least 180 that is commonly used for bedding.
  • Combed cotton has a texture that eliminates small fibres while leaving long strands, resulting in durable yet soft fabric.
