Sabahans weighing up an electric car can get hands on Proton's full EV range this week, without flying to the peninsula to do it. Proton e.MAS is running a five-day roadshow at Suria Sabah in Kota Kinabalu, with test drives and ownership offers that run until 11 October.

What is happening at Suria Sabah
The roadshow sits at the Main Atrium on the ground floor of Suria Sabah, open from 10am to 10pm daily between 7 and 11 October 2026. All three models in the range are on show: the e.MAS 5 hatchback, the e.MAS 7 electric SUV and the e.MAS 7 PHEV plug-in hybrid. Test drives are available across the five days, and the team on site can talk through charging, aftersales and what ownership actually looks like.
It is the latest stop in a national roadshow run that has already worked its way across the peninsula. Earlier this year the same format came to Kuantan and Subang Jaya, and bringing it to Kota Kinabalu is part of Proton's push to reach buyers beyond Peninsular Malaysia.
Why Proton e.MAS is pushing EVs in East Malaysia
Proton has led Malaysia's EV registrations this year, and the brand recently passed 40,000 deliveries in the 20 months since the e.MAS 7 went on sale. We covered that mark when the brand crossed 40,000 EVs at the end of September. Registration data also shows roughly one in 13 new cars in Malaysia is now electric, with Proton the most-registered EV brand.
The harder question for any EV buyer is charging, and it is a sharper one outside the Klang Valley. Proton points to its live charging map, which it says now lists more than 5,100 charging points with real-time availability through the car's navigation and the e.MAS app, plus more than 2,000 points across over 700 apartments and condominiums for high-rise owners. On the service side, the brand says it has 60 dealerships and more than 1,600 trained sales and aftersales staff nationwide, with a target of 70 outlets by the end of 2026.
The offers on the table in Sabah
For anyone close to buying, the roadshow carries the usual ownership sweeteners. Proton is offering free wallbox installation, overtrade support of up to RM10,000 and a 2.1% financing rate through Affin Bank. Place a booking during the roadshow and there is a 10% discount at Montanic Adventure Store on top.
There are lighter touches too. A "Find MECCHA CHAMELEON" activity hands out ZUS cans while stocks last, and on the weekend of 10 and 11 October the PRO-NET training team runs EV sharing sessions for anyone with questions about living with an electric car. Brilliant Solar is also at the event with up to 2% off a solar system, plus RM100 in Touch 'n Go eWallet credit for the first 20 sign-ups.
"Buying a car is an important decision, and we want our customers in Sabah to see our vehicles up close and experience them for themselves," said Salawati Mohd Yusoff, Chief Branding Officer of PRO-NET.
Worth a look if you are in Kota Kinabalu
If you have been curious about an EV but wanted to see one in the metal first, this is a low-pressure way to do it. The roadshow runs at Suria Sabah until 11 October 2026, with test drives, the full e.MAS range and the ownership offers all in one place.
