U Mobile has picked up the two headline titles in Ookla's latest Malaysia Speedtest Awards, with independent data now backing the operator's claim that its ULTRA5G rollout is paying off. For the first half of 2026, Ookla named U Mobile both Malaysia's Best Mobile Network and Malaysia's Fastest 5G Network.
The Best Mobile Network title came from a Speedtest Connectivity Score of 80.34, the highest in the market. That score blends download and upload speed with real world web browsing and video streaming performance, so it is meant to reflect everyday use rather than a single peak reading. On 5G specifically, U Mobile recorded the highest 5G Speed Score of 67.26 and the market's fastest median 5G download speed of 348.73 Mbps.
The awards land on top of a strong showing in Opensignal's Malaysia Mobile Network Experience Report from July 2026. Opensignal called U Mobile the biggest mover among local operators: its Reliability score jumped by 99 points, enough to lift it from last place in the previous report to joint first.
The operator also lifted its Consistent Quality score by 12 percentage points to take first place outright, and won Opensignal's Download Speed Experience and Upload Speed Experience awards. Nationally, Opensignal placed U Mobile top for Consistent Quality, Download Speed, Upload Speed and 5G Availability.
The regional picture was just as one sided. U Mobile took 51 outright and 64 shared Opensignal awards, swept every region's Download Speed award, and won 5G Download Speed and 5G Availability in every region, either outright or jointly.
U Mobile ties the results to the expansion of its ULTRA5G network and its move to run on its own 5G infrastructure, which it says gives it end to end control over coverage and quality. The operator only began running its own 5G network nationwide this year, and has been building the wider story around it, including an advisory panel for its 5G innovation hub.
