Apple's keynote runs at 10am Pacific time on Wednesday 9 September, which is 1am on Thursday 10 September in Malaysia, per Apple's own event page, and Apple Malaysia posts local prices in the hours after it. Before those numbers land, here is what the September iPhones cost at launch here, year by year since 2017, with the storage each price bought. Every price in the table is checked against Apple Malaysia's own pages: the 2022 to 2025 rows against Apple Malaysia's newsroom releases and store, the 2017 to 2021 rows against Apple Malaysia's online store as captured by the Internet Archive within weeks of each launch. Every source is linked at the end.

The September iPhones, 2017 to 2025
Entry model and entry storage only. The mini, Plus, SE and e models are left out to keep three lines, and even so the lines are not perfectly like for like: entry storage rises from 64GB to 128GB to 256GB across the years, and the tiers only settled into base, Pro and Pro Max in 2019. For 2018 the XR is shown as the base model because it was the cheapest of that year's three new iPhones, and the 2017 X and 2018 XS stand in for the top tier before the Pro name existed. Read the storage before the price
The base model went from RM3,649 for a 64GB iPhone 8 in 2017 to RM3,999 for a 256GB iPhone 17 in 2025: RM350 more, for four times the storage. The comparison is not like for like on storage, and it is in ringgit of the day, not adjusted for anything. The top tier went from RM5,149 for a 64GB iPhone X to RM5,999 for a 256GB iPhone 17 Pro Max. Within the table, the base price was lowest for the 64GB iPhone 11 at RM3,399 in 2019 and highest for the 128GB iPhone 15 at RM4,399 in 2023.
The three years that moved the line
2020. The base iPhone 12 launched at RM3,899, RM500 above the iPhone 11, while the Pro and Pro Max held at RM4,899 and RM5,299 with storage doubled to 128GB.
2022. Every tier rose: the iPhone 14 to RM4,199 (RM300 more than the 13), the 14 Pro to RM5,299 (RM400) and the 14 Pro Max to RM5,799 (RM500), storage unchanged.
2023, the peak, then 2024, the reversal. The iPhone 15 launched at RM4,399, the 15 Pro at RM5,499 and the 15 Pro Max at RM6,499 with a 256GB floor. A year later the iPhone 16 came in at RM3,999, the 16 Pro at RM4,999 and the 16 Pro Max at RM5,999: RM400, RM500 and RM500 lower. For context, the ringgit averaged about 4.67 to the US dollar in September 2023 by Bank Negara's published rates, the weakest September average among the years in this table, and was stronger by September 2024. That is context. Apple does not publish how it sets Malaysian prices, and we do not claim the exchange rate is the reason.
When Malaysia gets the phone
From Apple Malaysia's own announcements: in 2022 the iPhone 14 went on sale here on 23 September, a week after Apple's first markets; in 2023 the iPhone 15 arrived on 29 September, again a week behind. In 2024 Malaysia was in the first wave, with pre-orders on Friday 13 September and phones on Friday 20 September; in 2025 the same, pre-orders on Friday 12 September and phones on Friday 19 September. Whether that holds this year is Apple's to say tonight.
What this means for tonight
Apple has not said what it will announce. Reporting collated in our 28 August piece says the standard iPhone 18 is not expected this autumn. If that holds and Apple announces no other cheaper model, the least expensive phone unveiled tonight would be a Pro, and last year's Pro started at RM5,499. Apple decides that tonight, not the reporting. The cheapest iPhone of 2026 already exists: Apple launched the iPhone 17e in March at RM2,999 with 256GB.
