With Apple starting to take pre-orders for its iPhone X by 27 October in the US, we too do not want to be kept waiting for too long. The iPhone X (pronounced as I Phone Ten) will be sold in Malaysia at a price starting from RM 5,149. However, the exact release date has yet to be confirmed by Apple Malaysia.
Taking the iPhone to a Whole New Level
There are two specifications of the iPhone X which are 64GB and 256GB selling at USD 999 (about RM 4,200) and USD 1,150 (about RM 4,850) respectively in the US market. However, the retail prices by Apple Malaysia are RM 5,149 and RM 5,899 respectively, which is slightly over RM 1,000 more than the selling price in the US. Is it worth it? Well, one must make a decision having compared it with the flagship phones of other brands such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the newly launched Nokia 8.
Let’s also compare the pricing of other phones such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the iPhone 8 models. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus both come with the option of 64GB or 256GB storage. The iPhone 8 in Malaysia is priced at RM 3,649 and RM 4,399 respectively, while the iPhone 8 Plus is priced at RM 4,149 and RM 4,899 respectively. All of which are about 22% inflated from the selling price in the US. Meanwhile, Samsung is enticing Malaysians with special offers that come with the purchase of the Note 8. The 64GB storage model priced at RM 3,999 which comes with lots of goodies and gifts-with-purchase.
It Has Been 10 Years Already?
The iPhone X which is commemoratively named for the 10th anniversary since the birth of the first iPhone will have some extraordinary features. It boasts to be an immersive intelligent device that is entirely screen. Meaning to say that there is no home button, all you’ll have to do is to swipe upwards to go home.
With an all-new 5.8 inch Super Retina screen, the iPhone X comes in a solid body which is also water and dust proof ( up to 1 meter in water). If your phone is your baby, wouldn’t you want it to have all the right curves in all the right places? Well, the iPhone X is designed with stylish curves at all four edges and is nothing less than a display of fine elegance.
Now we’ve done some comparisons and seen the technology and impressiveness of the iPhone X, but back to the question of its pricing. Is RM 5,000 a price that is justifiable for the features given, or is Apple setting the bar a little out of reach? That is something the Malaysian market would have to figure out, something that we will know in a matter of weeks.
