Malaysians shopping for a tablet that can double as a light work machine have a new option to weigh from 18 August, when Huawei brings the MatePad Air to the local market. It is aimed at people who want something thin enough to carry all day but still capable of handling documents, notes and a bit of creative work.

The HUAWEI MatePad Air is a slim, full-metal tablet that Huawei is positioning as a PC-like device for everyday productivity. It comes in three colours, Airy Blue, White and Sakura Pink, and is built around a 12-inch OLED PaperMatte display, the anti-glare finish Huawei uses to cut reflections and make long reading or sketching sessions easier on the eyes.

The productivity tablet has become one of the more crowded corners of the Malaysian market, as more buyers pick a keyboard-and-stylus tablet over a budget laptop. The MatePad Air lands in a busy year for the category: realme's TechLife Pad Plus 2 arrived earlier at the value end, while Apple and Samsung continue to hold the premium tier. Huawei's pitch here rests on the OLED screen and the PC-style office software rather than a low price.
It also comes while Huawei is pushing across its wider Malaysian lineup, following the Pura 90s phone series launch. The MatePad Air extends that ecosystem to tablets, with accessories and services designed to keep users inside Huawei's software.
Price, availability and pre-order gifts
The MatePad Air launches on 18 August 2026. Huawei has not yet confirmed Malaysian pricing and says details will follow closer to the date. What it has detailed is the pre-order offer: customers who reserve early are set to receive free gifts worth up to RM4,003, which covers most of the accessories a buyer would otherwise pay extra for.
