Huawei has put its next flagship camera phone on Malaysian shelves the same day it showed it to the world, and the price list is the part worth reading twice. The HUAWEI Pura 90s Series opened for pre-order on 14 July 2026 from RM3,699 after rebate, with a 200MP telephoto camera doing most of the talking.

What Huawei launched at the Pura 90s Series event
Three products came out of the Flagship Product Global Launch Event held in Kuala Lumpur: the HUAWEI Pura 90s Series, the HUAWEI FreeClip 2 S open-ear earbuds, and the HUAWEI MatePad Air tablet. The phones are the headline, and the line splits into two models, the HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro Max and the HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro.
The Pro Max carries a 200MP telephoto camera built on a 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor, with 4x optical zoom, optical image stabilisation, and a 20x HEX Telephoto Video mode. That is the camera aimed squarely at concert seats and stadium stands, the distance where most phone zoom falls apart. It sits alongside an Ultra Lighting HDR camera. The Pura 90s Pro takes the other route, pairing an Ultra Lighting main camera with a macro telephoto that focuses down to 5cm.
The AI layer sitting on top of the camera
Huawei is leaning on software as much as glass here. AI Composition suggests framing while you shoot. AI De-Glare strips reflections when you shoot through glass, which is the recurring problem with aquariums, car windows and shop displays. AI Move lets you shift subjects around inside the gallery, AI Remove deletes distractions and rebuilds the background behind them, and AI Best Expression pulls the best face from a burst of group shots. A second-generation True-to-Colour camera handles colour accuracy across mixed lighting.
The phones run EMUI 16, Huawei’s Android 16-based successor to EMUI 15, with the Celia assistant handling voice commands and apps coming through HUAWEI AppGallery. That last point is still the real decision for Malaysian buyers: AppGallery, not Google Play, is where your apps live.
Battery, glass and colours
Both models get a 6000mAh battery. The Pro Max supports 100W wired SuperCharge, the Pro supports 66W, and the Pro Max adds anti-reflection, scratch-resistant Kunlun Glass on the front.
On colour, the Pro Max comes in Orange Ocean, Blaze Purple, Blush Gold and Graphite Black, with the Orange Ocean version using a dual-tone gradient mid-frame. The Pura 90s Pro goes brighter with Guava Soda, Orange Soda, Mulberry Black and Coconut White.

The FreeClip 2 S ships in Deepsea Blue and Space Silver with an open-ear design, an Airy C-bridge and a luminous charging case, and carries free gifts worth up to RM318 including a one-year loss care service and a one-year APAC warranty. The MatePad Air rounds out the trio with a 5.3mm body and an OLED PaperMatte display aimed at work and content creation, though this release does not give a Malaysian price for the tablet.
The takeaway
If you shoot a lot and you have been staring at the zoom gap between a phone and a real telephoto lens, the Pura 90s Pro Max is Huawei’s answer, and RM4,499 after rebate is the number to weigh it against. Everything else here is the familiar ecosystem play, and how well it lands still comes down to how comfortable you are living inside AppGallery.
