If you have been about to buy a 360 camera in Malaysia, hold off for a few days. The Insta360 X6, the biggest upgrade the category has had in years, arrives on 12 August, and it changes the maths on almost every model sitting on local shelves right now.

What the Insta360 X6 will bring
Insta360 has confirmed that its next flagship 360 camera, the X6, will be revealed on 12 August 2026, teasing it with a short clip captioned "Rethink 360". According to Imaging Resource, the teaser points to a dual 1-inch sensor system, a dedicated AI chip and a noticeably shorter body. Coverage from Digital Camera World calls it the biggest overhaul of the X series in a decade, largely because of that jump to 1-inch-class sensors, the same size step that separates a serious camera from a phone.
Leaked specifications, which Insta360 has not confirmed, add 8K 360 video at 30 frames per second, a low-light mode called PureVideo, and a swappable lens system. Treat those as rumour until the company shows them on stage, but the sensor upgrade alone is the part that matters.
Why this matters if you shoot in Malaysia
The 360 camera has quietly become one of the most useful tools a Malaysian creator can own. You film everything around you in a single take, then reframe the shot afterwards on your phone, so one run through a pasar malam, one ride down a coastal road, or one walk through KL at night can become a dozen different clips. That reframe-in-post workflow is exactly what the X6 is built to push further.
Here is the local decision. The two cameras most Malaysians choose between today are the Insta360 X5, which launched here at RM2,499, and the DJI Osmo 360, which sells from RM1,879. Both already shoot 8K 360. If you want the newest sensor and can wait a week, waiting costs you nothing. If you would rather spend less, a new flagship almost always drags the outgoing model's price down, so the X5 and the Osmo 360 are the ones to watch for a discount.
A two-horse race that helps buyers
This is really the latest round of a fight between Insta360 and DJI, and Malaysian buyers are the ones who gain from it. DJI only entered the 360 category last year with the Osmo 360 and undercut the X5 on price, which is part of why Insta360 is answering with a bigger sensor now. It is the same pattern we have watched across Malaysia's camera shelves, where Chinese brands now set both the pace and the price, and the same DJI pressure we saw when a rival finally took on DJI's pocket cameras.
None of this decides whether the footage is any good. The camera is not the real story on 12 August. The timing is. Whether you buy the X6, or grab a cheaper X5 or Osmo 360 once its price drops, the smart move this week is to wait and watch.
