Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro Land in Malaysia With Leica 5x Zoom

Two sizes, two chips, Leica 5x telephoto on both, and a 7,000mAh Pro. Xiaomi's 17T Series launches early in Malaysia from RM2,399.

Xiaomi Malaysia has broken its usual September pattern and launched the Xiaomi 17T Series early, putting a Leica 5x telephoto camera on both the standard Xiaomi 17T and the Xiaomi 17T Pro for the first time in the T Series lineup. The launch happened on 28 May 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, around three months after the 17 Series landed locally.

The hook for Malaysian buyers is the bigger camera kit on the smaller phone, plus a 7,000mAh battery on the Pro that Xiaomi says is the largest ever on a Xiaomi Series smartphone in international markets.

Pricing and pre-order, in RM

  • Xiaomi 17T 12GB + 256GB (online exclusive): RM2,399
  • Xiaomi 17T 12GB + 512GB: RM2,499
  • Xiaomi 17T Pro 12GB + 256GB: RM2,899
  • Xiaomi 17T Pro 12GB + 512GB: RM3,199
  • Xiaomi 17T Pro 12GB + 1TB: RM3,499

Pre-orders run from 28 May to 11 June 2026 at Xiaomi stores nationwide, mi.com, and the official stores on Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop. Both models ship with a free Redmi Pad 2 9.7 (4GB + 64GB) worth RM569 during the pre-order window, while stocks last. The 256GB Xiaomi 17T online exclusive is not part of that bundle.

On top of the tablet, the Pro adds digital benefits worth up to RM1,436 and the base 17T adds up to RM1,256. Both packages include 1+1 year extended warranty, one-time six-month screen breakage protection, 3 months of YouTube Premium, 4 months of Spotify Premium, and 3 months of Google AI Pro.

Leica 5x telephoto on both, Live Moment as the new trick

The camera system is where Xiaomi is putting the marketing weight. Both phones use a triple-camera array headlined by a 50MP main camera with a 1/1.31-inch sensor on the Pro and 1/1.55-inch on the 17T, paired with Leica UltraPure optics and a Leica Summilux lens.

The big change is that both phones now carry a 50MP Leica 5x telephoto camera with OIS, supporting 30cm macro, 10x optical-grade zoom, and up to 120x AI Ultra Zoom. The Pro layers on Xiaomi Series' first 4K 60fps cinematic recording for telephoto video.

Software-side, Xiaomi is introducing Leica Live Moment, which captures movement and expression instead of a single still frame. It works across all rear focal lengths, including Portrait mode (Leica Live Portrait), and the Pro adds Ultra-HD Live Moment in 4K with seamless zoom effects.

Display: 1.5K AMOLED with eye-care certifications

Both phones get a 1.5K AMOLED panel with 3,500-nit peak brightness, but the Pro pushes to 144Hz refresh rate (the 17T runs at up to 120Hz) and offers an ultra-low 1-nit minimum brightness for night viewing. The Pro also uses Xiaomi's LIPO packaging to keep all four bezels at 1.29mm.

Xiaomi is debuting Xiaomi Vision Care here, an eye-care system that adapts to ambient light and manages blue light, flicker, and motion blur. The Series is the first to earn TÜV Rheinland's quadruple eye-care certification, alongside Xiaomi's first TÜV Rheinland Intelligent Eye Care certification.

Chips, batteries, and the Pro's 7,000mAh advantage

The 17T Pro runs on the 3nm MediaTek Dimensity 9500 paired with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. The 17T uses the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra and tops out at 512GB. Both use silicon-carbon battery chemistry.

The Pro carries a 7,000mAh battery (Xiaomi's number) with 100W wired HyperCharge and 50W wireless HyperCharge, while the 17T packs 6,500mAh with 67W wired HyperCharge. Cooling on both is handled by the Xiaomi 3D IceLoop vapor chamber.

Other flagship boxes ticked: IP68 dust and water resistance on both, WiFi 7 on the Pro, WiFi 6E on the 17T, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and dual SIM with eSIM support.

Colours and the KL Festival exhibition

The 17T Pro is offered in Deep Blue, Deep Violet, and Black. The 17T comes in Opal White, Violet, Blue, and Black.

To anchor the launch in Kuala Lumpur, Xiaomi is running A Visual Journey with Xiaomi 17T Series at the KL Festival 2026 from 30 May to 1 June 2026 at Federal Hall 1 & 2, Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, with an experiential booth at the River of Life. A photowalk led by photographer Yuji Haikal will run alongside, and a Travel with Xiaomi 17T Series campaign awards travel vouchers worth up to RM20,000 with a total prize pool of RM120,000 for buyers in the 29 May to 30 June window.

The takeaway

Putting the Leica 5x telephoto on the smaller phone makes the 17T more interesting than usual mid-cycle refreshes. If you want the biggest battery and the highest refresh rate, the 17T Pro is the obvious pick. If you want flagship cameras without the larger footprint, the 17T at RM2,399 is doing a lot of work.
