HONOR Magic V3 Review Malaysia

Making Smartphones Smart Again: Here's Every AI Feature On The HONOR Magic V3!

It does feel a little like Magic!

September saw a slew of tech releases, including what I consider one of the best book-style foldable smartphones on the market to date: the HONOR Magic V3. It’s slim and light—slimmer and lighter, in fact, than some candy bar phones—with amazingly vibrant displays and impressive flagship-level performance.

You can read all about it in our full review here!

HONOR has improved so much between the Magic V2 and Magic V3 that it’s honor-estly impressive. Perhaps one of the things that made the Magic V3 so impressive is its impressive lineup of AI features, designed to simplify daily tasks and boost productivity.

From multitasking to real-time translation, the Magic V3 really works some magic to make life easier. Here’s a list of all the AI features on the HONOR Magic V3!

HONOR Magic V3 AI Features

Circle To Do More: A Multitasker's Dream (Almost)

One of the biggest releases in mobile AI is probably Google’s Circle to Search feature. We’ve written about this quite extensively on the Samsung Galaxy S24 series—basically, it allows you to circle and look up whatever is on your screen without having to screenshot, switch apps, and upload your image.

On the HONOR Magic V3 though, it does more than that, as the name suggests. HONOR calls theirs Circle To Do More which, while a little on the nose, isn’t a lie. Apart from Search, you can also Circle and Share, Circle and Send, Circle and Post, Circle and… well, you get the idea.

Also, the feature is activated with a knuckle gesture, which is all the more convenient. It’s basically an evolved take on Google's "Circle to Search," letting you grab content from one app and immediately paste it into another—super handy when juggling between social media, notes, and web searches.

Face-to-Face Translation

Now, translation tools aren’t exactly new technology, not even voice input translations, but what makes the Face-to-Face Translation feature so special on the HONOR Magic V3 stems from the phone’s form factor.

Thanks to its folding ability, both sides of the conversation can see a screen where the translated texts are displayed in real-time. This allows for a more natural flow of conversation, as you don’t have to pass the phone back and forth.

Currently, the HONOR Magic V3 only supports ten languages. HONOR could do with an expansion, but as it stands, these ten languages include the essential languages that Malaysians would need on the daily: yes, it includes Malay, which other phones don’t support. Now you can make small talk with your favourite nasi lemak mak cik!

However, like all audio-reliant features, the HONOR Magic V3’s Face-to-Face Translation feature may be a little frustrating to use sometimes, especially if you’re trying to converse in a noisy or fast-paced environment. The translations are accurate enough, but don’t expect it to interpret slang and heavy accents.

AI HONOR Notes

Speaking of audio features: the HONOR Magic V3 also has a voice-to-text feature integrated into the Notes app. It transcribes voice recordings into text while tagging different speakers for clarity—a fantastic feature for anyone who needs organised notes, from students to professionals.

Of course, the accuracy of the transcription can waver, especially when multiple people are talking at once with too much background noise, so you’ll have to manually edit the text afterwards.

What I found the most useful in HONOR’s Notes app wasn’t just this, though. The Notes app can be synced across all your HONOR devices, so you can easily transfer notes from your phone to your laptop without any hassle at all. This is part of the HONOR ecosystem, which we’ll get to…

Magic Ring

Now. The Magic Ring is where you can see your entire HONOR ecosystem. We reviewed the HONOR ecosystem as well, and it really does square up to Apple’s ecosystem, albeit with some faults.

The Magic Ring is basically your command centre for the ecosystem, and this is where you’ll find features like Connected Input, Connected Notifications, Global Favourite Space, and, yes, synced Notes. While this isn’t strictly AI, I still find it pretty intelligent, so there you go!

Magic Portal

Now, back to magic—I mean AI. The Magic Portal is a feature that takes multitasking up a notch, allowing you to drag content between apps without switching windows. It’s kind of like Circle to Do More, but instead of research, it’s more for content sharing across apps. For example, you can drag and drop an address from a text into Waze without having to copy and paste it.

It’s super useful but also prone to mistouches; I found myself accidentally triggering the Magic Portal by holding down too long on a particular piece of text, which I often do for multiple reasons.

Parallel Space

Portals aside, HONOR is leaning heavily into the magic theme with the Parallel Space feature. For those who need to keep their personal and professional lives separate, you’ll find that Parallel Space a game-changer, as it allows you to have two distinct environments on the same device. Wanna pull a Hannah Montana? At least your phone won’t give you away!

Super Split Screen

Speaking of dual lives, the HONOR Magic V3 also lets you split your screen so you can make the most out of its ultra-large inner screen.

This feature is mostly targeted toward gamers: mainly, the screen can be split into two sections, one for touch controls and the other for gameplay. Basically, instead of mobile gaming, you get a handheld gaming experience on a smartphone!

Unfortunately, the feature currently supports only a limited number of games, so it’s not as versatile as I’d hoped. Once more games become compatible, this could be a game-changing feature—literally—for mobile gamers.

AI Defocus Eyecare

Now, this one is more of a passive feature than an active one like all the ones above. Most smartphone manufacturers have put a lot of effort into eyecare, which is great considering how much time people spend looking at screens nowadays.

HONOR takes it up a notch with its AI Defocus Eyecare. It adjusts the focus dynamically and reduces blue light, which I appreciated during long stretches of writing and reading.

The AI features on the HONOR Magic V3 are undeniably impressive, offering users innovative ways to multitask, communicate, and stay organised. From real-time translation to multitasking mastery, these features cater to a wide range of users, from professionals to travellers.
