Amazfit Bip 5

Review: Amazfit Bip 5—Budget Smartwatch-ing Wins This Time

It's affordable, durable, and packed with features!

This is a rather late review, but the Amazfit Bip 5 is an intriguing addition to the world of budget-friendly smartwatches that we just had to write about it. It manages to balance affordability with solid features, all while maintaining the lightweight, slim design Amazfit has become known for, and some noteworthy downsides that Amazfit definitely need to improve on.

Build & Design

At first glance, the Amazfit Bip 5 doesn’t scream premium, but it does what it needs to. Its slim and lightweight plastic design makes it a comfortable wear for both casual and fitness-focused users. Despite the initial impression of a budget build, the Bip 5 holds up remarkably well. In our experience, it survived a few accidental knocks without showing any scratches.

The plastic build, while not luxurious, is pretty durable. It would be great if Amazfit had included more strap options and colour choices with the watch for more customizability, but for what it’s worth, the design is pretty great.

Display

The Amazfit Bip 5 features a TFT LCD display, which may not deliver the deep blacks and vibrant colours of an AMOLED screen, but it holds its own. The large display is a step up from previous models like the Bip 3 Pro, offering a decent viewing experience. While the pixel density could be higher—close-up, the pixels are visible—the display is still bright and colourful enough to get the job done.

For day-to-day use, the screen is perfectly functional. Whether you're outdoors tracking your run or just glancing at notifications, it offers enough brightness and clarity to stay visible in most environments.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the Bip 5 doesn’t disappoint in its price range. It handles basic tasks smoothly, from health tracking to managing notifications. Scrolling through menus is fluid, with minimal stuttering, making it a step above most other budget options.

The Amazfit Bip 5 has pretty much all the features you need in a smartwatch, which is quite impressive considering its price. Most notably, it has Bluetooth calling and speakers integrated, so you can answer calls directly on your wrist, something that was previously only limited to higher-end models. For reference, the GTR Mini does not offer this feature.

Health tracking is also comprehensive, with accurate heart rate monitoring and a range of sports modes that perform reliably, whether you're running, cycling, or strength training. Good news for Adidas fans: the watch can also share workout reports with the Adidas Running app too!

However, the Bip 5 doesn’t really work well with iOS. Connection issues aside, the remote camera control doesn’t offer a live camera view on the screen, rendering the feature pretty much useless.

The Amazfit Bip 5 connects via the Zepp app, which is, as always, quite intuitive and feature-rich. There are plenty of free watch faces to choose from, unlike most other smartwatches, so that’s always a boon for Amazfit smartwatches.

Battery

Battery life is one of the Bip 5’s greatest strengths. After a full charge, the watch easily lasted up to 7 days in our experience, even with regular usage. Despite the influx of notifications and daily activity tracking, the battery drop was very slow and gradual. Charging the device is quick, too, taking around an hour to top up from a nearly full battery.

That said, considering how many smartwatches Amazfit has in their repertoire, it’s surprising that they haven’t standardised their watch chargers. I mean, even Apple’s switched to a unified USB-C port, albeit reluctantly. I’m really hoping to see a charger revolution in the smartwatch industry soon.

Verdict

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly smartwatch with solid performance, fitness features, and excellent battery life, the Amazfit Bip 5 is definitely worth considering. It delivers value beyond its price, making it an ideal option for anyone seeking a fuss-free, affordable smartwatch.
