Not everyone needs a top-of-the-line smartphone that can do anything from running spreadsheets to launching rocket ships and typically costs upwards of an arm and a leg—thankfully, budget smartphones exist.
The OPPO A3 Pro 5G is one such smartphone, costing less than RM1000 yet promising a slew of features. Here’s a quick review of how it performs!

Design & Build
The OPPO A3 Pro has a plastic body with a glass finish, which gives it a more premium look than it actually costs. Our review unit was in black, which is pretty unassuming, but the slight shine and texture are a pretty nice touch too.
The rear camera module is slim and doesn’t protrude much, which is a positive design choice. Meanwhile, the metallic frame adds durability and a premium feel to the device. The bottom edge of the phone houses the speaker grill, a Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microphone.
Display
The OPPO A3 Pro 5G features a 6.69-inch Full HD display, allowing for clear and crisp visuals. However, it only has an LCD panel, which isn’t the most ideal. Other competitors in the same budget range already come equipped with better AMOLED or IPS screens, like the Redmi 13.
That said, the display is decent, though not exactly brilliant. The colour reproduction is good enough, though we came across some visibility issues when using the phone outdoors during the day.
Besides that, the OPPO A3 Pro 5G also has noticeable bezels, especially at the bottom and sides, which might affect the immersive experience. It also features a punch-hole camera design.
Performance
Performance is a critical aspect of any smartphone, even budget ones. Powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 700, the OPPO A3 Pro can run daily tasks with ease. It’s available with up to 8GB RAM, which is quite sufficient for a budget smartphone.
As for gaming, the OPPO A3 Pro handles most popular games like PUBG and Asphalt 9 well. We did notice some frame drops two hours into a PUBG marathon, but overall, the phone performed pretty well.
The Oppo A3 Pro 5G comes with a 5000mAh battery. On a full charge, the phone comfortably lasts a day with moderate to heavy usage, including browsing, streaming, and gaming.
Camera
OPPO’s flagships are known for their camera hardware, and while the A3 Pro doesn’t exactly have top-of-the-line setups, it’s still quite impressive for what the phone is worth.
On the rear, the OPPO A3 Pro sports a camera system led by a 48MP primary lens. The selfie camera on the front is 16MP. The primary camera captures detailed and sharp images, while the ultra-wide lens is great for landscape shots.
