How Does Burst Shot Work?
Burst shot mode, also known as continuous shooting mode, is a valuable feature in photography that allows you to capture multiple images in rapid succession. On most DSLRs, you can trigger continuous shooting by pressing and holding the shutter button. On smartphones, burst shot controls differ from phone to phone.
For this article, we’ll be demonstrating the burst shot mode on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. To shoot continuous images in quick succession, all you have to do is swipe down and hold the shutter button in the Camera app.
One of the biggest issues for burst shots, though, is that it captures so many photos in a split second that it may prove a problem if your camera or smartphone is short on storage space. Most of the time, only one or two images are usable from the 30+ images that you’ve captured through burst shots, and it can become a hassle to have to constantly go through your gallery one by one to delete those that didn’t make the cut.
Thankfully, we did not experience either of these problems when shooting on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Samsung makes it easy to organise and go through your burst shots by consolidating each “session” as one photo, which you can look through later and save only the ones that you like.
Plus, it does help that the Galaxy S23 Ultra has a large storage capacity, so we could just shoot without having to worry about storage space.
Tips For Using Burst Shot Mode Effectively On Your Smartphone
Using Burst Shot mode on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, or any other Galaxy smartphone for that matter, is as easy as snapping a normal photo.
- Open your Camera app
- Swipe down on the Shutter button and hold
- The number displayed on the shutter button is the number of shots the camera takes; just let go once you think you have enough
Yes, that’s literally all there is to it. This would make for a boring read if we just ended the article here, so here are some tips for you to ensure you’re making the most out of this feature.
-
Make sure you have a steady hand
To minimize motion blur, make sure you have a steady hand while holding your smartphone. A tripod would help, but since you’ll need to swipe and hold the shutter button, make sure your hand doesn’t accidentally jolt the camera too much while the photos are being taken.
That said, the Galaxy S23 actually did a pretty good job of keeping the subject centred in focus. We did not use a tripod for this demonstration, but our photos still turned out pretty clear and detailed.
-
Frame, lighting, and composition
Just like all other photos, you should make sure that your subject is nicely framed with the appropriate lighting so that nothing is over or under-exposed. Make good use of the rule of thirds and the golden ratio!
-
Anticipate action and be patient
Timing is crucial in burst mode, so try and anticipate when key moments will occur. You might have to be patient, as the perfect shot may not happen on your first try. Practice makes perfect, so if you don’t succeed the first time, just try again1
Armed with these tips, we hope that you’ll be able to take your mobile photography game to the next level. Having a palm-sized camera in your back pocket is only as useful as you make it, to go out there and capture those split-second moments!
