With the entire world focused on sustainability and eco-consciousness, governments are encouraging their people to drive electric cars. However, electric cars are still new to the market, and there are not many places that have electric charging stations. Fortunately, Waze has now made it easier by adding EV charging stations to its route planning tools.
After inserting your vehicle information into the Waze app, the new feature will help you detect nearby charging stations as you travel to your destination. This new feature will be available globally to all Waze users in the coming weeks, according to Waze.
2 years ago, Waze partnered with Volkswagen to add charging stations to their route planning tool, but it was short-lived as the feature was removed shortly after. With this latest announcement, it seems like Waze will be implementing this feature permanently in the app.
This isn't exactly the first navigation app to provide EV charging station locations, as Google, Waze's parent company, had implemented this feature in Google Maps as early as 3 years ago. Google Maps not only provides information about whether the station is being used but also how many types of plugs are available in certain charging stations.
With the new charging station feature added to the app, Waze will join PlugeShare and A Better Route Planner as one of the navigation systems that delivers a better and more efficient driving experience to those with electric vehicles.
