Touch 'n Go's Visa Prepaid Card Is Coming Soon, and Here's What We Know About It.

Could we finally be looking at Touch 'n Go's first Visa card?

Table of Contents

As what was reported over a year ago, Malaysians can expect Touch 'n Go to release their very own Visa prepaid card around 2022. Similar to BigPay and MAE, the e-wallet linked prepaid cards allow seamless transactions at thousands of merchants as well as other benefits.

Recently, screenshots of the Visa Card on Touch 'n Go's the home screen and in the Financial Services tab have been shared by a user on a Lowyat.NET forum. None of us has the 'Visa Card' section in our TnG eWallet app yet at the time of writing but according to this user, it was revealed that applying for the Visa Card can be done through the app and there are several fees associated with the Visa prepaid card.

According to the user, you will be able to upgrade your eWallet to the Premium level with the Visa Card, just like with GO+, GOpinjam, CarInsure, and SafeTrip. He also said that the Visa Card section showed up on app version 1.7.88, which is the same version that we were on, but our app did not show this option. As far as the fees go, the user also shared a screenshot of what seems to be a list of fees under the Visa Card's Product Disclosure sheet.

As for the design of the card, it was revealed by a Twitter user that the card will carry colourful paint strokes and a splattered pattern. You can also add your name to the card during the application process.

It's also important to note that despite Touch 'n Go's stated application fee of RM10, the user who shared the screenshots on Lowyat.NET's forum revealed that he only paid RM5. Another source of confirmation is a screenshot posted by the anonymous Twitter user, which also shows RM5 as the delivery fee. In contrast, the annual fee stated during the application process is RM18 (which was waived for the forum user). There are no official announcements on the TnG Visa Card yet, so we could not verify which of these conflicting information holds true.

Touch n' Go had first mentioned their plans for a TnG Visa Prepaid Card back in 2021, when they first joined hands with Visa. Having a physical Visa card linked to your TnG eWallet meant that users will be able to use their eWallet balance even if a merchant does not accept eWallet payments (but accepts Visa card payments). Unfortunately, the card is not a TnG card, so it will not work for toll payments.

Since some people are already seeing the option in their app, it's most likely that TnG will be making an announcement soon, so do stay tuned for the latest news!
