OPPO Find N2 Review Malaysia

First Impression: OPPO Find N2 — Yet Another Commendable Foldable Smartphone

OPPO is in the ring!

Touchscreen smartphone design has barely changed over the last decade and a half, and for good reason: why fix something that’s not broken? The current candybar design works perfectly well so far, but then again, innovation doesn’t happen in stagnation.

Currently, we’ve been seeing a rising trend in the industry. Every smartphone manufacturer seems to be jumping on board the foldable train, from book-style foldables to clamshell flip phones. The most recent brand to come up with its own spin on the foldable is OPPO, with the new OPPO Find N2.

The Find N2 is not OPPO’s first venture into foldable devices. Back in 2021, the brand released its first foldable flagship, the Find N, which was only available in China. While there’s no firm guarantee yet that the second-generation Find N2 will be released in the Malaysian market, our hopes are high since we were offered a review unit, albeit only for a short time.

Display & Design

Folded, the Find N2 sports a 5.54” AMOLED screen. Unfolded, it gave us a 7.1” LPTO AMOLED main display. Both displays support up to 120Hz refresh rate.

Technicalities aside, the Find N2 truly does feel like a regular smartphone when folded. And it’s no wonder; OPPO says it’s one of the lightest foldable phones on the market at 237g, and the 17.7:9 aspect ratio is certainly more friendly for those with smaller hands.

Besides that, OPPO has improved its Flexion Hinge so that folding the phone over and over again is a relatively smooth experience. Most impressively, there was no gap between the screen when the Find N2 is folded, and no visible crease on the main screen when unfolded.

On the right of the phone, you’ll find the side-mounted fingerprint sensor and the volume rockers, just like any typical smartphone. The two bottom-firing speakers can be found at, you guessed it, the bottom of the phone with the Type-C charging port.

The review unit we got was the vegan leather black, which is a sensible, no-nonsense colour that feels premium to the touch. The phone is also available in demure Green and matte White.

Camera

The camera module on the back of the phone, while raised, blends in smoothly with the rest of the phone. There is no wobble when placing the phone on a flat surface.

The OPPO Find N2 combines the brand’s own Marisilicon X processor and Hasselblad’s capabilities to power its triple-camera setup. The setup consists of a 50MP main camera with Sony’s powerful IMX890 sensor, a 48MP Ultra Wide camera and a 32MP Telephoto camera with a new generation of RGBW sensor.

Performance & Features

A disclaimer: OPPO has yet to announce the official release of the Find N2 globally, so our review unit was not a global version; i.e. no Google, and a default Chinese interface. That meant that it was hard to gauge the true performance of the phone as we couldn’t use it as a daily driver.

Just off our first impressions, though, just scrolling through the phone was buttery smooth. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor that it equips is tried and tested in many other flagship smartphones, so OPPO can’t really go wrong with that.

The Find N2 also employs OPPO’s latest ColorOS 13, which is intuitive and powerful enough for demanding apps and large-screen multitasking. To activate split screen mode when on the main screen, all we had to do was swipe down with two fingers. It’s even possible to take screenshots of individual apps in split-screen mode!

Just like all the other foldable phones out there, the OPPO Find N2 comes with its own "flex", dubbed the FlexForm Capture. Essentially, it allows the user to take photos from many different angles apart from the standard point-and-shoot. There’s really nothing the Find N2 can do that other foldables cannot in this regard, really.

Conclusion

Adding another competitor into the fray can only spell good things for the market, so we’re still excited to see how the OPPO Find N2 shapes up to the competition. So far, we’re quite impressed with the design and display. Should the OPPO Find N2 be released in Malaysia, we’ll definitely want to do a full review of the phone. Until then, stay tuned.
