Will the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Chipset on the Galaxy S23 Allow For Better Productivity?

New phone, new processor — just the way it should be.

The year is ending, and with it comes a barrage of new year expectations and resolutions. One of these wildly hyped expectations is the launch of Samsung’s new flagships, which are rumoured to be launching in February next year.

The Galaxy S23 series, as the Internet calls them, have had a lot of speculations over the past few months. From better camera systems to 8K video capabilities, the rumour mill has been working hard to capture the newest phone by the tech giant.

Just recently, Sammobile revealed a leak on a bunch of specifications for the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The specifications proved one rumour correct: The new Galaxy phone will come with the newest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip.

What’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2?

Released just last month, Qualcomm’s high-end SoC is one of the fastest and most efficient mobile CPUs for Android smartphones.

Integrated with four CPU clusters, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has a clock rate of 3.2GHz, 2.8GHz, and 2 GHz, sharing 8MB level 3 cache between them. Combined with the new architecture, the Gen 2 processor is more powerful and efficient than any other smartphone processor out there.

Besides that, the chip is also built for AI, with an integrated AI Engine that can offer better AI performance and workloads and is the first chip to come with INT4 support. It can also process photos up to 200 MP and videos up to 8k.

There are two variants of the chipset, the AB version and the AC version. The latter, which should have a faster CPU and GPU compared to the base version, seems to be exclusive to Samsung smartphones only, and we’re likely to see it debut in the next line of Galaxy flagships.

Will We See SD 8 Gen 2 on the Next Galaxy Flagships?

For comparison, Samsung’s current generation of flagship phones uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in areas outside of Europe, where Samsung fitted the flagship with their own Exynos chip. This may change in the next launch, as Qualcomm has announced that they will be powering Samsung’s flagships globally as part of their long-standing partnership.

Therefore, it’s pretty much confirmed that the new Galaxy S23 will be running on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The leaked specs match that of the chipset released by Qualcomm. With the chip, we can expect better AI performance, improved image processing, and better graphics. Plus, we may even be able to see 8k videos on the next Galaxy!

Along with all the other upgrades that the next Galaxy lineup is rumoured to have, it’s almost certain that the smartphone will be a much more powerful productivity powerhouse that the current Galaxy S22.

Still, nothing is confirmed yet, so we should just sit tight and wait for the actual launch, which should be around February 2023.
