Whether we are Apple or Android fans, we cannot deny that Samsung makes some of the most interesting smartphones in the industry. One of their most groundbreaking smart devices this year in 2021 is definitely the 3rd generation of their foldable phones - the Galaxy Z series.
Both the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Fold3 have made waves since their release and met expectations due to their overall improvement from the last generation, be it for the build quality and having the latest Android features.
From what we've observed thus far; the Galaxy Z Fold3 is catered towards power users whereas the Z Flip3 is meant for the average phone user. And today, we'd like to talk about the latter and how we personally feel about it - as an average user.
About editor:
I've always been a simple user when it comes to technology, and my smartphone needs are no exception. Probably like many other editors, I like to keep my work and personal life separated. So when I got the chance to use the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 as my work smartphone, I was more than happy to accept the offer.
In my two weeks of use so far, I've been pretty amused and satisfied with this foldable phone. Even though it is not rated to be a power workhorse - the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 (review) is the one to look at, I found it to be satisfactory for my day-to-day job as a ProductNation editor.
Taking photos without a tripod, yay!
Being an online content creator for a product review website, the chances of me needing my phone camera is always there.
With "Working From Home" still a practice for us at ProductNation, there will be times when I have to take photos of products myself instead of getting a photographer to help. This is where the folding feature of the Galaxy Z Flip3 comes into play.
Whenever I want a simple photo of a product, all I have to do is have it in a folded, "laptop-like" stance, and position my product in front of the 10MP front camera carefully. I can then either use the timer or hand gesture feature to activate the camera shutter.
Reading and accessing documents with a large screen
When unfolded, the Galaxy Z Flip3 becomes quite a long phone, literally. Luckily, this never bothered me because I found the 6.7-inch size Dynamic AMOLED display to be very useful since I have to check long content for publishing on a daily basis.
Part of the task there involves checking if articles look good on mobile. Plus if I am on the go, it's much easier to edit online documents too.
Multitasking with a foldable phone is very useful
Probably my favourite feature out of everything else that the Galaxy Z Flip3 has to offer is the fact that its folding feature lets me get creative with how I do my work. It's just more natural and ergonomically pleasing. For example:
- I get to use the phone just like it's a mini laptop. This is pretty nifty as I can focus on typing when the phone rests on the table instead of holding it with my small hands.
- Checking emails and my calendar simultaneously is also something I found easy to do on the Galaxy Z Flip3. All I need to do is drag and drop the apps on top of each other to open and use them at the same time.
- With that, I also no longer need to fret about placing the phone flat on the table and strain my neck looking down at content when I don't want to hold the phone.
Don't underestimate that cover display
This was one of the features that I was really looking forward to. As an editor that needs full concentration throughout the day to produce content, I like to eliminate as many distractions as possible.
Thankfully with the 1.9-inch Super AMOLED cover display, the Galaxy Z Flip3 lets me mute it quickly and allows me to glance at any important notifications that may need tending to right away.
These were just some things that I found to have been helpful and are unique to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3.
