Infinix SMART 20e Lands in Malaysia From RM499

Budget phone buyers in Malaysia have a new name to weigh up. Infinix has brought its SMART 20e to the market at a starting price of RM499, and the entry-level handset carries a short list of features that are usually reserved for phones costing a fair bit more. For anyone shopping at the bottom of the price ladder, that mix is what makes it worth a look.

The SMART 20e comes in two versions, both built around 4GB of RAM:

  • RM499 for 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage
  • RM549 for 4GB RAM and 128GB of storage

These are Infinix's updated recommended retail prices for the Malaysian market. The step up to the RM549 model doubles the storage to 128GB, which is the more comfortable choice if you keep a lot of photos, videos or apps on hand, since 64GB fills up quickly once Android and the preinstalled apps take their share.

What you get for under RM550

Infinix is leaning on three features to set the SMART 20e apart from other entry-level phones. It includes NFC, which Infinix markets as Touch Transfer and Flash Sharing, so the phone can handle contactless payments and quick device-to-device file transfers. The display runs at a 120Hz refresh rate, branded Fluid Motion, with a Rain-Responsive Touch mode built to keep the screen working when your fingers are wet or the surface is greasy. The phone is also rated IP64 for dust and splash resistance, part of what Infinix describes as military-grade durability.

A 120Hz screen and NFC in the same sub-RM500 phone is the combination worth noting. Plenty of budget handsets still ship with a 60Hz or 90Hz panel, and many skip NFC altogether, so having both here gives the SMART 20e an easy talking point against its rivals.

Where it sits in the Infinix range

The SMART line is Infinix's most affordable family of phones. Earlier this year the SMART 10 and SMART 10 Plus launched from RM299, so the 20e slots in just above them as a slightly better-equipped entry choice. Shoppers who can stretch the budget a little further might also weigh the HOT 70, which arrived at RM649 with a different set of priorities. Entry-level is one of the busiest parts of the Malaysian phone market, and features that once signalled a mid-range device, such as a high refresh-rate screen and tap-to-pay NFC, are slowly moving down into this bracket.

Where to buy the SMART 20e

Infinix is selling the SMART 20e through its brand stores and authorised dealers nationwide, as well as on Shopee and TikTok Shop. It is offered in four colours.

At RM499, the SMART 20e is Infinix arguing that a cheap phone does not have to feel stripped back. NFC, a fast screen and a bit of water resistance are the kind of extras that make a budget pick easier to live with day to day.
