For businesses and creative studios watching their video files, surveillance footage and AI datasets pile up, the practical question is how to add storage without rebuilding the whole server room. TerraMaster's new 725 Series is aimed squarely at that problem, with four rackmount units that scale from eight to sixteen drive bays.
On 22 September, TerraMaster announced the launch of four enterprise rackmount storage servers: the U8-725, U12-725, U12-725 Plus and U16-725 Plus. The lineup is pitched at medium and large businesses, creative teams, virtualisation setups, surveillance deployments and AI-driven work, where a single box needs to serve files, run virtual machines and hold large datasets at once.
What is inside the 725 Series
All four models are built on Intel Xeon D processors, with four cores on the standard units and eight cores on the Plus versions, paired with error-correcting (ECC) memory for data integrity. The U12-725, for example, runs a Xeon D-2712T with 16GB of ECC DDR4 that can be expanded up to 1TB as workloads grow.
Networking is handled by a mix of four 10GbE SFP+ ports and two 5GbE ports on the U12-725, and TerraMaster says the platform reaches sequential read speeds of up to 6,250 MB/s and writes of up to 3,480 MB/s. Each system also carries NVMe SSD cache slots and PCIe expansion slots, so buyers can add faster networking cards, RAID controllers or AI acceleration hardware later.
Capacity scales with the model. The U8-725 is an eight-bay unit, the U12-725 and U12-725 Plus hold twelve drives, and the U16-725 Plus tops out at sixteen bays for teams managing larger volumes of data.
TOS 7 and built-in backup
The servers run TOS 7, TerraMaster's operating system, which folds file sharing, multi-user access, virtualisation support, snapshots and remote access into one interface. Data protection comes through the Business Backup Suite, covering backup, synchronisation, snapshots and disaster recovery across PCs, servers, virtual machines and network storage, with no separate software licence to buy.
The pitch fits a wider trend of consolidation, where organisations try to do more from fewer, more capable machines rather than adding rack after rack. For a creative studio, that can mean keeping active projects, archives and backups on one platform instead of scattering them across drives. Price and availability
The 725 Series is available now from TerraMaster's official website, with prices starting from USD 4,999 for the U8-725. No Malaysian pricing or local availability has been announced yet, so local buyers will need to watch for a regional listing or import through a reseller.
For most home users this is far more storage than they need. For a growing studio or business that has outgrown a desktop NAS, though, the 725 Series is TerraMaster's move to keep those customers as their data demands climb.
