Grim Trials Sets 20 August Launch Across PC and Console

Indonesian studio Glory Jam locks in a 20 August 2026 launch for its heavy metal roguelite across PC, Xbox, PS5, Switch and Switch 2.

Southeast Asian games rarely get a same-day launch across every major platform. Grim Trials, a heavy metal action roguelite from Indonesian studio Glory Jam, is about to do exactly that.

A firm release date

Glory Jam and Soft Source Publishing have confirmed that Grim Trials arrives on 20 August 2026, launching together on PC (Steam and Xbox), Xbox Series X and S, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. The team says the game is tuned for handheld play too, with optimisation for Xbox handhelds and the Steam Deck.

The pitch is a roguelite with a coming of age story. You play as Avelin, a young woman who dies and is recruited as one of Death's Reapers, tasked with hunting impure souls to earn her place and see her still-living love again. Runs unfold across hex-grid arenas filled with monsters, traps, and seven bosses, fought with a mix of scythes, crossbows, and Blessings granted by various Gods of Death.

Build variety and a real metal soundtrack

Between fights you gather materials, craft weapons and armour, and shape a build from an expansive skill tree at the start of every run, then layer on randomised Blessings mid-run. The soundtrack is performed by real Indonesian heavy metal band Sigmun, which fits a game that leans hard into its riff-driven tone. A hub area called The Academy lets you take on quests, build relationships with mentors, and unlock support for later runs.

Why it matters

Grim Trials has already had a strong festival run. Its Steam Next Fest demo drew a 92% Very Positive rating across 122 reviews, and the game was featured at the Latin American Games Showcase, ID@Xbox Indie Selects, and the Southeast Asian Games Showcase, alongside a Summer Game Fest appearance. For a regional studio, that kind of visibility ahead of a multi-platform launch is not common, and it points to a local scene that is increasingly competing on the same stage as much larger developers.

Availability

A demo is available now on Steam, and the full game releases on 20 August 2026 across PC and console. Supported languages include English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Latin American Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese. Pricing for Malaysia has not been confirmed yet.

If you like tight roguelite loops with a heavy soundtrack, this is one Southeast Asian release worth putting on the calendar.
