Sony's 1000X THE COLLEXION lands in Singapore this June at S$839, plus a Sandstone WH-1000XM6. Malaysian pricing not yet confirmed.

For Malaysian audiophiles eyeing the 1000X family, Sony has just opened a new branch on the tree, and it sits above the WH-1000XM6 in both price and finish. The new 1000X THE COLLEXION arrives in Singapore this June at S$839, while the WH-1000XM6 picks up a fresh Sandstone colourway at S$649. Malaysian pricing is not yet confirmed.

What 1000X THE COLLEXION changes

The launch coincides with the tenth anniversary of the 1000X line, which Sony started back in 2016 with the MDR-1000X. Where the standard 1000X cans have iterated on noise cancelling and call quality every year or two, THE COLLEXION pushes in a different direction: refined materials, more careful sound tuning, and a few firsts under the hood.

The new headphones run a bespoke driver unit with a soft edge and a high-rigidity dome made from unidirectional carbon composite. Sony's pitch is clearer separation between vocals and instruments, more detailed high frequencies, and a wider soundstage versus the existing 1000X cans. To finalise the sound signature, Sony brought in mastering engineers with GRAMMY wins and nominations on their wall, with the stated goal of carrying the artist's intent more faithfully into the listener's ear.

THE COLLEXION is also the first headphone to ship with DSEE Ultimate. Sony's earlier DSEE upscalers used machine learning to fill in detail lost by audio compression; DSEE Ultimate moves the work to on-device Edge-AI and pushes the upscaling further, restoring more detail and dynamic range from streamed or low-bitrate sources in real time.

The 360 Reality Audio Upmix feature has been expanded into three distinct modes: Music, Cinema, and Game. All three are switchable through the Listening Mode button on the earcup. The defaults are Standard, Music, and Cinema, and the Sony Sound Connect app lets you swap in Game or BGM mode in place of one of those if you prefer.

WH-1000XM6 in Sandstone

Alongside THE COLLEXION, Sony is adding a fifth colour to the WH-1000XM6 lineup. Sandstone is described as a warm, natural finish, joining the existing palette without changing anything else about the headphones. Same driver, same noise cancelling, same battery life. It's an aesthetic refresh aimed at buyers whose tastes sit outside the existing colourways.

Pricing and Malaysian availability

In Singapore, 1000X THE COLLEXION lands in June 2026 in Platinum and Black, with a suggested retail price of S$839. The WH-1000XM6 in Sandstone retails at S$649 from the same launch window. Sony Singapore has opened a pre-order exercise, with early-bird perks for buyers who register before 7 June 2026.

Malaysian availability and ringgit pricing are not yet confirmed by Sony Malaysia. Sony's 1000X family typically reaches Malaysia within weeks of the regional debut, so Malaysian buyers should watch for a Sony Malaysia announcement closer to or shortly after the Singapore launch.

The takeaway

If you have been waiting for a 1000X that prioritises listening over commute-friendly features, THE COLLEXION is Sony's first headphone aimed squarely at that crowd. For everyone else, the Sandstone XM6 keeps the established formula intact and just changes the colour.
